Hi

Is anyone questioning recent water bill. In January 2020 we paid 475.00 euro’s quarterly bill. We came back to the UK January 18th and still in the UK however today, I have received notification of quarterly water bill which is 404.00 euros. Considering nobody is in the property this seems incorrect. I have questioned the bill via email.

475 euros for a quarter????  Good god, is that the norm?

At the moment we pay about 30 every two months (Malaga province but moving to our new apartment in Almeria province once lockdown is over)

we pay 23 euros a month and that hasn't changed even though we now use more water than before as we used to shower in the communial area of the indoor swimming pool and now have to do it in our flat.  Seems likely that you have a leak somewhere in your system.  Do you have an irrigation system in a garden?  or pool top up?  we had a leak on our swimming pool when we owned a villa and it cost us a fortune only knew when we got the huge bill.

That does seem a huge bill. We recently had a leak in our garden and we had two huge water bills but they were only around €250 in total. Our normal water bill is around €30/40 a month but we do have a pool and irrigation system. Do you have a neighbour that can turn your water meter off? If they can do this and then check if the dials on the meterare still moving then that confirms you have a leak somewhere. I would also suggest if they can turn it off for you to leave it turned off until you get back.

Hi

No we don’t have irrigation system or a pool leak. Hope nobody has moved in lol. Waiting for reply from Oria. Will ask my brother who lives near us to check for leaks once lock down is lifted. He went prior to lockdown to water our plants. That’s all just once.

Thanks for your reply

We had a leak on our automatic pool filler.and didn't realise it for a while. We had 2 bills pne for 95 and 131 where we    normally pay 33 pnce we fixed it we took a pic didnt use any water overnight and it didnt move so no leak. Hopefully our next bill will be back to normal.

Received a response from Oria Town Hall.

Apparently they are saying when they went to read the metre they turn off the water at the main as they realised we weren’t there. Said water is running inside the property however, we don’t agree as my brother checked everywhere. They are saying when we are coming back to the UK we need to ensure every pipe is switched off inside the Villa. Still don’t understand it! So paying for nothing!

That all sounds very odd. I assumed when you turned off the water meter that cut off all water to the house. That’s what happened when we turned ours off and then when we turned on taps inside nothing came out. Our water has never been turned off by the water people when we have not been there so that’s odd too!! We did however turn it off ourselves this time when we left for the UK.

I know it sounds very odd. We paid just over 400 euros a quarter when we were there. We had showers etc daily and watered the plants, topped up the pool. Paid the bill in January before we came back to Uk however, we’ve got to pay again over 400 euros for 4months and not there! using any water.

No leaks anywhere- not happy 😢

I live in Oria village and I pay approx between 30 to 35 euros every two months depending on how often I water my garden.  Which is every day in July and August, and I have a good size garden.  Do you have a pool, does it have a leak?  You need to check your water meter and keep readings every week.  Always make sure you turn your water off by the meter when you go away.  My friend had high bills last year and she had a water leak from the meter to the house.

I hope you get it sorted as these are not normal bills.
