I understand that electricity supply into private houses is quite low in this part of Spain (I think my builder mentioned 5.5kw?). Does this cause a problem for using electric heating. I have been advised to opt for oil fired (diesel) but I don’t really like the idea much!!

I think I’d rather use electric even if it’s a bit more to run but I don’t want to go down this route if it’s not up to the job.

I was thinking wood burner with electric radiators. It’s quite a large open plan detached house and it’s fairly exposed!

I would be interested to hear other people’s experiences.

If you really do want to heat the house fully by electric you can apply to your supplier to increase the supply (potencia) from the standard 5.5Kw to a higher rated supply.

Heating by electric is not cheap and most typical Spanish properties are built to be cool in the summer not warm in the winter, with for example, no insulation, drafty doors and windows, hard tiled floors.

Have you considered a mix of electric Neaterheaters and a log/pellet burner.

Hope this helps.

Yes, we have a oh burner which I’ll run all winter. The electric rads are more for the bedrooms and bathrooms. I was thinking they can come on maybe twice a day for two hours morning and evening the the log burner can keep the living area warm. I’ve have a place down in Vera where it rarely gets very cold but I gather Oria is very different.

It’s hard to know until we’ve had a winter there!

Not sure wat neater heaters are - I’ll google them.

Cheers, Andy
