Unbelievable how much financial cost brexit has caused 😱 Seems strange how my non residents tax bill for 2020 was 167 euros (single person) and brexit had happened and now for 2021 my bill is 408euros , no wonder people are selling up & moving back to U.K. between 467 euro IBI as well it hard for people to continue the upkeep of a house in Spain
Just one of the reasons I am moving back.!!
Add your IBI and non residents tax together and still less than council tax in UK, cheaper car tax here too!

Its not cheaper if you are a resident. especially if you have a house here and a house in the UK, for me its the peace of mind, I am going back to a system I understand, where I can argue my case in my own language if needs be, I have just spent a week in the UK and was surprised, if you buy sensibly. at how reasonable things are. e.g. whilst there my iphone packed up, I went to a reputable shop and bought a reconditioned one with 1 years guarantee with a case for £75, before I bought it I got my husband to ring around to see if I could get a better deal here. The best he could find was the same phone no case no guarantee for 145 euro's. The red tape since Bretix if enough to send anyone running for the hills.

Not sure why your non resident tax should be brexit related, mine has barely changed. Have you checked the calculation

It’s what my solicitor sent me as she does the tax ( I am not pension age ) but she stated that it since brexit the tax calculation has changed . I know it’s cheaper than council tax in U.K. , but our plan in 2018 when we bought house was to get residency & retire but my husband passed away sept 2018 , so now it is too expensive to get residency or a non lucrative visa , as I don’t have any income until I become of pension age

Non resident tax is 1% of castral value of property payable at 24% an increase of 5% payable post brexit.
Trust this helps, your bill should have risen by 5% unless the property was revalued post purchase, which you should have been notified of. We were caught out with this one first 2 years we paid at original valuation, then our reassesed valuation at purchase was applied and our bill doubled.

I understand your feelings, but if you live out here full times it does work out cheaper than the UK. Good example council tax in the UK was £2000 here as I live in the village 320 euros. Also from May to October there is no cost for any kind of heating, my water is 35 euros for 3months. I could not afford to move back to the UK.

Sorry for the loss of your husband back in 2018. Presumably you were in UK at the time and too young (below retirement age) to decide before 2020 to move out here permanently. I took early retirement so little to no income, no property in UK and it has and still is a struggle but luckily cost of living here is so much cheaper than UK so I just scrape through week to week. Lots of Brits are still moving over to Spain as I rent out rooms and many are here to house search and presumably use the capital from UK house sale to buy cheaper here and still fulfil the criteria for residency in regards to money. I wish you well!

Tax has changes from 19% to 24 I think. Or that's what my solicitor has said with the calculation of the tax.
