Thinking of buying  property  in oria,is it a nice village  to live and is it a safe area.

We like walking  and cycling  is this an area suitable for this.

What amenities are there in oria.

Look forward to any responses.

Hi Clive, like everywhere in the world no one can say somewhere is 100% safe but to be honest most places (exceptions usually large cities) especially away from coast are very safe.  Whether male or female you won't get that unsafe feeling when walking at 2am in the morning or wandering the hills during the day alone.  People are very friendly and most will smile and say hello unlike back in the UK.  Plenty of walks and places to cycle but it is hilly.  Banks, pharmacy, supermarkets (small), bars, PO, Dr's, bread/cake shop, police station, summer outside pool, animal feed stores, hardware store, garages etc. but pretty much no public transport as is typical in villages here.

Hope that helps a little, I'd advise coming to see for yourself as there are short term rentals on AirBnB, Booking.com

As Andy has said there is everything in the village except a vets, which there are 2 in albox.  I have had my house since 2005 and love it here.  When the fiestas are on, which is twice a year people are around the village all night.  It is one of the safest towns, with many villages dotted around.  We have the local police stationed in the town hall and the guardia have there own office which is open most afternoons. The people are very friendly and if you try to speak some Spanish they really appreciate it. Let me know if there is anything else I can help you with.

Thank you for taking the time to answer my questions.

I totally agree about place's being safe and yes cities anywhere in the world come with a certain amount of crime issues.

We have lived in spain for 20 years and are relocating to the Almeria province for a more relaxed way of life.

Again thank you for you info.

Best regards.

Any questions, don't hesitate to PM me if you like.  We started off in Granada region and hopped over the border to Almeria.  Do miss the free tapas but apart from that it's a great area  :)

Usually when someone asks about living in Oria a lot of people say that 'it's cold, and even snows', and they're quite correct, but that's all they can say, because they've never lived here, they've usually heard it from someone else or seen it on  F/B, they have no knowledge of the plusses of the area.

In addition to Andy & Ednab's info, the height of Oria means the air is more pure, ideal for outdoor pursuits, and plenty of places to do it, in the countryside there's such a feeling of freedom, which you don't get in larger places.

Just get yourself over for a visit, I'm sure you'll love it.

Thanks ,its refreshing to hear positive responses.

After living on the costas for 20 years one of the main reasons for moving was a different climate.

We have stayed in these areas before whilst traveling in our caravan but holidaying and living are two different things.

Thank you once again for the positive vibe.

Living in Oria is brillant, as you are doing speak to people who live here.  There are people who pass opinions without living here.  There are times when the temperature drops but to mee it feels more like seasons.  Although this year it has been lovely all year.  One of the best things is that yes it gets hot but not as hot as the coast.
