We are looking to buy a property within the next 6 months.

Has anyone used 'A Place in the Sun Currency' for exchanging money and transferring to a Spanish bank account. Please?

They informed us they do not charge commission and there are no hidden costs. Transfers over £30.000 to an overseas bank account is free and they eliminate most foreign bank charges.

They source currency from a number of commercial outlets. In the live markets than are achievable through high street banks.

Also can any one explain what an Escrow account is and how it works please

Many thanks

Sophie

Hi, Sophie, I've never heard about a place in the sun doing currency,  I thought it was a channel 4 based program.  Friends of ours went on about Money Corp, was the best way to transfer, they used a markets based companies type of way, our friends went on and on saying that was the only way to go, in the end we went to HSBC, it cost £20, and no hidden charges to put it into a Karjamar account.

Hope that helps

Its such a minefield..... I just dont know where to start. I’m rubbish at this.... its all starting to become a nightmare. I’m dyslexic and dont do figures very well. Ive spent so long 20yrs) dreaming of our place in Spain and now the whole thing sounds so hard. We have the money that isnt the problem.just so scared of not getting it right...

Sophie, don't be so hard on yourself. You are right to be cautious, you worked hard for your dream.

Do you have someone close who you trust to help with your finances?

Transferwise is a good and safe option.

Also an Escrow account is money held by, possible a solicitor and pooled with other people's money to help pay for homes to be legalised.

Is the place you are looking at legal, it sounds very much like it isn't and you MUST get independent legal advice, not from the solicitor the estate agent recommended.

Like I say it is wise to be cautious m you waited this long, another few months won't make much difference.

All the best.

Hi we use GC Partners (were GCEN) never had a problem with them.  They quote you the exchange rate at the time you request, and that is what goes into your Spanish bank account.  I am sure they have an office in Mojacar as well.  Hope this helps.

We used them last year before they changed their name from Currency Index to A Place in the Sun currency.  We found them very professional and efficient.

If your buying a property you will need a bank account, so just use Transferwise to transfer money to your account, best rates you can get and in your account thd same day.
