Does anyone know why there is a full army battalion in Oria today?  They are fully kitted out along with armoured personnel vehicles, tanks, hummer with .50 cal machine guns entering Oria from main Albox route and then on the road out to Cullar. Is it a normal exercise or is there something going on? Village seems to be going about it’s business as normal but as we’re new to the area, we weren’t expecting to be greated by such a large army presence.

Possibly a higher state of preparedness following Strasbourg?

Don’t worry, it happens every now & again, we’ve always presumed that it just practice manoeuvres, but don’t know for sure.

The soldiers always seem to go out of their way so nice & friendly, and it does add a bit of spice to the daily lives of the locals :-)

Saw the same group come off the A7 E15 at Huercal Overa and head for Taberno, no tank tho but most everything else.

We live in Urcal and since the group were seen in and around there have been two Hummers in the village the past few days ! Together with Guardia Civil and Policia Local it's very reassuring.

They have set up a full base camp near us and are patrolling through the day between here and Zurgena. It’s all very impressive.

The army boys were showing off some of their equipment in Oria this morning, just a couple armoured troop carriers, an ambulance plus some heavy machine guns & big mortar like things on the ground.

It was probably a PR exercise, and it seemed to work, there lots of people there, the kids climbing all over the machines, and men talking to the troops and producing photos, maybe of their days in the military?

Afterwards, we went to our local bar, for a coffee, and in came three squadies, complete with automatic rifles on their backs, they had a beer & a tapa, and at this, no one blinked an eye lid, don’t you just love the easy going, laid back lifestyle out here

Yes we saw them in the square on our way to Mojácar, I’m so impressed with how the army engage with the locals. Wish we’d stopped to have some time with them too. Well done guys 👍👍
