Hi

We have purchased a property in Alfaix and are having the larger items (beds, sofas etc) delivered. We will still need to buy other household items such as crockery, cutlery, small kitchen appliances, TV, rugs, throws etc.. We don't want to pay top prices but would still like good quality. Any advice on where to go would be much appreciated. Thanks

Soft furnishings are the hardest thing to source.  Mostly the quality is questionable and the prices are not great for what you are getting.  I would have a mooch round your local towns.  The is the sleep centre in Albox along the side of Mercadona and Abodes in Mojacar that do better quality stuff.  Me and Mrs Jones in Mojacar or at Los Llanos Sat market on the way into Alboxalso do soft furnishings.  Try the bigger Chinese shops for a bit more cheap and cheerful stuff.

Antas poligino (industrial estate) has a big Lopez which has a bit of everything DIY, electrical and household goods.  That estate also has a few furniture stores, they will also do mirrors, pictures cushions and decorative stuff as well as lamps etc.

As for other electrical items Lopez does all sorts, then there's Euronics stores in lots of places.  They stock teles, other electrical stuff and white goods.  The people who runs them are usually very helpful and knowledgeable.  There's Factory Vera at Vera near Iceland and another factory type store in Cuevas.  After the it's media merkt online or nearest store is Lorca.  Worten and some others also online.  Amazon, Marks and Spencer Leroy Merlin all online.  Most have a delivery charge and delivery is hit and miss at best.

The shopping centre at Lorca has a big supermarket, think it's an Alcampo, oh and there's a Casa there   there's a couple of shopping centres in Almeria if you fancy a day out or are going that way for any other reason.

Sorry my post is so long and I may have missed some bits which I'm sure others will add.  Happy hunting, try and be patient as shopping here is very different to what you have been used to.

Regards Karen

Just in Addition:- Terrace furniture can appear relatively cheap and the cheaper you buy the faster it disintegrates. Some of it gives the impression that it will last forever even outside. But, do your homework or you could be flushing money down the toilet slower.

Terrace furniture is subject to intensive heat during the daylight hours and the cold in the darker hours. That's 24/7. From experience we've found that paying a few bob more (well, more than a few bob) you get better value. Don't be afraid to ask "What's your cheapest price?" on any object. Some sales teams have a percentage discount available to them and as long as it doesn't eat into their commission they have no problem offering discounts.

Soft Furnishings:- Can literally be picked up free when people want to get rid of them. Just be ready to collect immediately. It's better for the seller giving the stuff away than paying for dumping.

Cutlery:- Euromarket in Mojacar Playa has excellent cutlery and lots of household stuff that would sell cheaper than most places. Some of it is good quality especially the cutlery.

Me and Mrs Jones in Mojacar Playa is a good shop for nearly every household item. Their items are good and the sales staff are excellent. It's owned by the most passive sales guy ever. But, you end up buying nearly everything there.
