Being a licensed UK firearms holder, I brought a point 22 complete with telescopic lens, a 12 bore shotgun and a 410 shotgun with me when we moved to Spain some 15 years ago. I had. written authority from the Spanish consulate in London plus the required airlines paperwork. Landing at Alicante I was ushered into an interrogation room and subjected to a thousand questions as if I intended starting an armed revolution. This was, as. stated having the correct paperwork, eventually they confiscated my .22 telescopic lens saying it was illegal and gave me my 3 guns stating I had to lodge then at the Guardia Civil barracks in Aguilas until I received my Spanish certificates. 10 months later after miles of paperwork, a detailed medical and then a psychological test plus pestering the designated firearms officer at the barracks I was given my licences and my guns were returned. 2 years later and now living in Andalucia it became obvious that owning guns was more of a liability than it was worth. There were no official clubs to speak and all small game had been decimated many years ago so I sold all three to a local gun shop in Aguilas and took up fishing.
