Edwin Poots has resigned as leader of the DUP after only three weeks after being shafted by his party colleagues who felt he had been too accommodating to Sinn Fein to keep the Northern Ireland assembly on track.

It’s worrying that the man who usurped Arlene Foster because she wasn’t Unionist enough has now fallen on his sword after losing party support because he ceded to Nationalist demands to Introduce the Irish Language Bill. His replacement will undoubtedly be a 100% Orange Bowler wearer who believes that the world was created in 6 days and is only 5000 years old

In that 21 days Mr Poots walked out of the monthly run-of-the-mill meeting with politicians from the Republic and for no reason claimed the people of the Republic were trying to "starve" Unionists from NI.  Unionists love playing the card that they are under siege for the past five hundred years.

In that 21 days period Mr Poots had been delaying (by years) discussions and means on the revival of the Irish language in NI. Sinn Féin (nationalists) put the gun to his head (pun intended) and he bowed to their demands. This didn't go down well with Unionists* and talks about revival of Irish start by September at latest.

Next general election in NI will see Unionist representation in the NI Assembly as a minority for the first time.

We're three weeks from 12th July (Huge Day of Marching by Unionists) and into the season of hateful marches by the same Bowler Hat Brigade.

Mr Poots departure is no great loss; he was a nobody up to 21 days ago and now he's a nobody again. Good Riddance!

* "Not an inch" - was always their calling card.

Why oh why do we keep getting provocative Irish Republican stirring propaganda appearing on this Almeria Site??  All it does is bring up bad feelings and memories for people who have been adversely affected from the troubles and hurt in Northern Ireland on both sides of the fence.  Divisive comments like this have no place in the peaceful future of Ulster.

Some obviously find it amusing, as in the reply to this post, to use terms such as 'put a gun to his head and deflamatory remarks against those that don't aspire his own religious leanings.

Go follow the dinosaur trail, as most have had enough of these religious & political rantings from those who have nothing better to do with themselves.  Enough of this crap on this forum please!!

This from one those who wish peace & stability to all up North.

1. I don't post anything provocative - I keep within the truth at all times.

2. I don't support any violence from either nationalists or unionists.

3. The bad feelings amongst Unionists are inbuilt and I used their "not an inch" slogan to confirm their desire (with another of their slogans) "Ulster is Right and Ulster will Fight." They see compromise as a weakness (see the internal wrangling amongst the DUP as I write). But, many of them who own property in the EU have applied for an Irish passport (as in Rep of Ireland) and I'm glad the RoI government sees it fit to issue same.

4. My metaphor "putting a gun to their head" is apt and Unionists want to dictate and not negotiate which they got away with for years through various means. The issue of the Irish language amongst nationalists is real and part of their heritage - I don't know how this can be misconstrued as propaganda. Many Unionists have a dislike of the Irish language and its use was banned in NI for years.

5. I recognise and respect anybody's right to follow and use their own religion or no religion as the case may be.

6. This is a discussion forum and if you do not like what is being discussed you can just ignore.

And Endex, if you want me banned from here . . . just get to the back of the queue.

Matthew, you're a provocateur who likes nothing better then stirring the sh1t from affar, especially where religious and political opinions go.

There's a handful of the same ilk who do exactly the same on here, some obviously educated people, who when things they cherish are  challenged, try to belittle and slap each others back like on-line bullies.

Why not stick to the News Channels for Politics & Religion?   For christ-sake, this is a forum in Spain for people to gain knowledge & information about living in Spain.  Since when did Northern Ireland Politics & Religion come into the equation.  Don't use the 'General Discussion' section as an excuse for this crap.

And yes, your 'gun to the head' comment was totally out of line in this context.

As for the original poster,  'no comment' on that tripe, you obviously have a few inner battles to contend with!!??

As for wanting to get you banned, drop the theatrics, you're sounding a tad insecure there.

As for ignoring it, too many people do this..... you know, turn the other cheek, somebody else will deal with it?

Admin, I support Matthew's pleas not to be banned,  I just think this is the wrong sort of forum for this Political & Religious stuff, no matter how he and others try to disguise it.    All for freedom on speech but their's a time & place for everything.

I apologise for any upset with my post. I did post it under the Brexit section as the biggest issue with Brexit at the moment is the Northern Ireland protocol. The UK Government are trying their best to squeeze themselves out of the agreement they signed up to and negotiated and Boris described as 'Oven Ready Brexit'. I think the UK government are happy for the DUP to kick off about the Northern Ireland Protocol because their angst is directed at the EU as they  are so pro-British they couldn't blame Boris for the deal they negotiated. I find this issue about Sausages, Bacon and ham pretty ridiculous as the whole of Ireland probably export lots more of these products to the British Mainland in comparison to what arrives in Ireland. I see no demand for Wall's Sausages in Ireland to be honest.

But allowing the DUP to become more radicalised and extreme in their views deflects from the UK government and allows them to pass the buck and try to shift the blame onto the EU but that is at the cost of the vast majority of people in Ireland (Both North and South).

The July marches will not be a pleasant place for the most people in Ireland other than those who like to don the Bowler hat

If you have had enough of this "crap" as you put it ... don't read it.  You are not a moderator, you do not get to decide what people do or do not discuss here.
