We have had a holiday home, just back from Vera Playa, for many years now.  And we have also an RV that we have travelled extensively around Europe and I can honestly say our area is by far the best.  It has the best climate, busy in summer,  but not too busy, enough going on in winter, beautiful blue skies even in winter.  The best fresh vegetables fruit and fish.  Friendly Spanish Locals.  Good roads,  free parking, clean beaches, (thanks to the Coastal Cleaners) and crystal clear water. This area has probably been, until now, the best kept secret!

We bought a holiday home in Mojacar 3 years ago.  It is a lovely place and has much to recommend it.  However, I would strongly advise against purchasing without getting to know the place,  One man's meat is another man's poison.  We travelled around the Almeria region (in fact, much of Spain) using our Motorhome and spent quality time in various locations, before settling on Mojaca Playa.  It suited our budget, has lovely beaches, lots of reasonably priced restaurants and places to go.  Mojacar is linear and is built upwards, so it it is not too difficult to get a good sea view without breaking the bank.  It is a fairly quiet place, but lots of bars do a variety of entertainment.  It is not the easiest of places to get to from the airports, but is not inaccessible.  You will have your own list of requirements, and the only way to decide if Mojacar or it's surrounding areas are for you is to visit and maybe spend some time.  The estate agents are generally warm, friendly and helpful and willing to show you lots of properties without too much pressure.  The way I felt about Mojacar was that it was magical, and that still stands for me.  Come and find out for yourself!

We've lived in Mojacar and I also think that the front, Mojacar Playa is pretty dead in winter and far too much traffic in the summer, can't park easily and of course there are imigrants who come into the area for their own needs, don't wear too much jewel ray, don't leave your handbag in view if you are asked directions, never get out of your car when helping someone,it's full on in the summer.

I love Vera, the town is enchanting, the locals are all friendly, Vera has a heart if you want to join in, loads going on, music nights, Fiestas, food exibitiins etc.etc. but as we are in Spain all in Spanish, so for me Vera fits the bill.

Heacal, loads of flies so nice and cheap, Arboleas also suffers flie problem so you will notice lots of properties with bird cages, (eating outdoor rooms) not for me.

It all depends on your budget and what you want to do to relax, watch satellite to or watch Spanish tv.

Keep your eyes wide open

How true Tim. You’ve hit the nail on the head. We’ve been looking for that elusive place for a few years now. The Spanish people here in Andalucia are all so lovely, friendly and helpful but it’s hard to find the right area or property.     Max one of the problems in finding a house here is you just don’t get an address so you can go and look at the outside first and the area, an agent has to take you cos they are hard to find esp countryside places (campo). Or they are loath to give it as several agents can sell the same property. This has led us to numerous wasted days as agents take you to totally unsuitable properties so be warned. Hint try and get a google ref out of them first so at least you can have an idea where the wild goose chase that you are about to be taken on is located. Good luck

Hi Max

My husband and I are in the process of retiring and moving to Almeria, Spain within the next few months.

He’s English and I’m Brazilian and Spain ticks all the boxes (and more) for a good quality of life and healthy retirement.

We happen to know Florida quite well as have been there many many times on holidays and have relatives there. However we couldn’t retire and live there permanently as we don’t have a Green Card.

But as have been living in England, Surrey for almost 30 years, we are sure we will love retiring in Spain, specifically Almeria because we’ll be near our grown up children. We have been there many times in the past 3 years fell in love with Mojácar and surroundings. Mojacar Playa and Mojácar pueblo is a jewel and reading and hearing of what everyone says about life in the area - and in Spain in general- it seems that the advantages are so many!

Health wise and money wise it is a great place to live !

We are looking to buy around Mojácar or inland not too far from the Playa.

I agree 100% with Brian, Mojácar is really magical and we made up our minds to go and retire there , maybe close surrounding area if we don’t find exactly on Mojacar Playa.

Brian who would you recommend to us for our removal? We’re moving about half of our belonging so it’s quite a lot of stuff. Bug beds and tables and chairs. Plus lots and lots of boxes.

Max.  Rent before you buy.  I have lived in this area for over 20 years.  It suits us but not everyone.  We live between Garrucha (very Spanish still) and las Buganvilas which has a alot of English speaking people.  Also you might want country not beach.  So have a good look.  Good luck.  We are elderly so are glad the bus routes are near although we still drive.  We can walk to the beach or the shops  and there are a great variety of restaurants, steak houses, Chinese,,  Indian,  British etc. And plenty of things to do winter and summer depending on your interests.  Good luck.

1. You have a choice of 3 large supermarkets.

2. Public transport is excellent in Mojacar Playa.
