Hi,

My partner and I are hoping to move to the area in late 22 or early 23 and are both looking for jobs that do not involve speaking Spanish. I am a qualified Tefl teacher and also currrently support students with academic work at university level. My partner has a degree and is looking to support students at secondary school level with maths. He is also interested in any other jobs that do not need a spanish speaker

Unless your a EU resident you have no chance, you can't work in Spain no more for at least 5 years, thats if you can then, unless your PROFESSION is on the Spanish list of needed jobs it's virtually impossible to work in Spain now.things have changed now.

I dare say dario will enlighten you with the nitty-gritty. But basically the answer to your question  is NO. You can't come to Spain to work.

Sorry to burst your bubble. Time have changed in Spain now and it's not that easy anymore 🇪🇸

And definitely IMPOSSIBLE if you can't speak Spanish.

you can't work, even on line, if you are coming here on a NLV.  You have to satisfy the new rules of income and savings without work. However, if you have an EU passport then the rules are different.

One of the many unpleasant consequences of Brexit is that UK citizens can no longer freely work in the EU and that includes online work. Work visas exist but your European employer would have to prove no EU citizen could do the job so pretty much impossible. There are non lucrative visas for Spain too but you can't work for the first 5 years and need to prove you have funds to support yourselves during that period plus pay for private health insurance. Again, extremely difficult for young people. There have been rumours of short term nomadic workers visas being brought in so that might give you a temporary solution if they are ever established.  Just say thanks to the Tories and Brexiteers!

I’ll weigh in here as well.  I’m TEFL qualified and I do teach English part-time - adult English … if you don’t speak Spanish, you will find it almost impossible to teach the language.  There are concepts and grammar that are so vastly different that you need to be able to explain in the students native language.

others have already weighed in with info on work permits etc.  you will require a work permit if you wish to undertake ANY remunerated of any type.  To obtain a work permit you need have skills that are on a Skills shortage list (English teacher is not one of those skills) or you have to apply on the basis of being self-employed; HOWEVER before you get too excited, to get this you need to supply a full business plan as well as pre-sales invoices / letters of intent from clients in Spain.

Unfortunately, coming over to Spain and just picking up work as an English teacher for UK passport holders is no longer a viable option. Sorry.

As an addendum, if you are intending to settle in Spain, I would definitely encourage you to learn Spanish - Spain has four official languages, and English isn’t one of them …

Thank you

I'm actually retired and although I  am TEFL qualified I was thinking more about general online tutoring for students in the UK, which is what I do now..I support university students who have learning difficulties.

Spain *IS* talking about the “Digital Nomad” visa which is a pathway to residence, and would cover just this sort of situation, unfortunately it is still at the “talking about” phase, with no indication of a possible implementation date

Now I can understand the dig at the Brexiteers,BUT the Tories? millions of labour voters voted for Brexit
