Looking for a job: Education

Hi Tabby. Please can you give further details of the type of job you are looking for ( ie. Teacher, classroom support assistant, office administrator, cleaner etc). Also if would be helpful to know your level of fluency in Spanish (fluency will be a must if you are hoping to obtain any kind of work in a school)and, if you wish to work in the classroom, your professional qualifications.  Sue.

Firstly thank you for responding to my post. I am currently taking Spanish lessons. I was looking for English speaking schools I currently work in a secondary school on the pastoral/welfare side. I deal a lot with child protection issues and also general run of the mill incidents. I know there are quite a few English speaking schools in the Costa Del Sol.

Hi Tabby.  There is one private school in the area near to Mojacar . It's called Valdeserra and is on the road between Garrucha and Vera. I know several of the staff who work there and they are all fluent ( at Native speaker level) in Spanish. Although it is a large school I do not believe it has a pastoral department - but you can find out in person.  I work in education in Spain in the local area and my experience is that pastoral care is the responsibility of middle management teams.  Child protection legislation is administered and regulated very differently to that of the UK. To work in the  state system you would need Spanish qualifications and in both state or private you would need a high level of spoken and written Spanish- especially if dealing with pastoral care and CP. If your move is imminent you might be better served, in the first instance, to look at teaching English in a language academy. Most language academy teachers are employed freelance ( known as Autonomo) and you would be liable for your own Seguridad Social ( think NI) payments which rise incrementally to around 320€ per month.  Income tax is separate to this. Language teachers can be employed as "Monitors" ( around 8-10€ an hour) and , more rarely, as "Profesores" for around 10-12 € an hour. If teaching young people you would working from the 16.00-21.00 and employment us most usually from mid September to the end of June ONLY.  Making a living here in Spain can be difficult, but I wish you good luck in your search. One final thing....you will need to register as resident here before Brexit day at the end of March.
