Hi

Hello - I joined the forum recently as I've been researching the area, looking for somewhere to move to. I am retired; I do travel, speak reasonable Spanish, currently based in London and cannot take winter here anymore.

In May, I'll be coming to Andalucia for a bit of a 'tourist trip' to Ronda / Granada etc , then spending 6 nights in Mojacar to find out what it is like living there.

I was wondering if anyone would meet up for a coffee or a drink - just to chat and give me a few pointers - what places I can visit by bus, living in the puebla v. the beach, suggestions for how best to use my time. I'll be coming in on the bus from Almeria sometime in the afternoon of 7th May and am staying at Casa Justa.

Thanks for any pointers at all.  Sally

I better warn you that this is not the best area to rely on public transport as it is very limited.  If you consider living in this province, you really ought to drive unless you live in Almeria city or maybe Roquetas de Mar which is not the most picturesque part of the province but perfect for people who want all the amenities like trains, buses, bilingual schools, shopping centres, hospitals, health centres, etc. close to  hand as well as access to good beaches

Sorry to maybe put a damper on your enthusiasm but maybe this is one of the reasons why Mojacar and it´s surrounds are less expensive for property as without all these things I have mentioned, they have less chance of becoming concrete jungles.  Elderly people could eventually find this difficult but for many it makes the area more attractive.

As an afterthought, driving is easier and more of a pleasure here compared to Britain as the roads are far from crowded.

Why Mojacar and not an area more inland ?

Partner bought a two plot sized villa in a lovely village just 40 minutes from the coast and beaches, 7 minutes from the motorway and 12 minutes from Huercal Overa, the nearest town. with a great pool, sun terrace she's been using the past couple of days, yes it's still early March, !

Mojacar in the summer months gets crowded very crowded as others like Colonel Doctor Bobl will attest as he has a place there, car parking is a bit of a nightmare even now,

Ok there's restaurants everywhere you can turn, food is cheap, you'll find menu's with 12 sometimes 15 starters, mains and desserts for between €12 - €15 euros, good wine from €3 up, cant say about the nightlife but from what you'll see and read it's good.

There are rental places inland, look up Voss agents here in Huercal Overa, friends who are moving out in April are having viewings of their 3 bed 2 bath villa with pool now even tho theyre still packing up lol.

We/I reckon that if you cant chill out in a place like ours then youre somewhat beyond all help lol, we love it here. But, choice is personal, bottom line is what youre looking for. Good luck finding it.

Oh following on from the earlier responder, there's practically no bus services and no trains !

Coach services do come to H/O.

Motorways are so far removed from the likes of M25 you wont believe youre eyes lol.

Reading youre initial message again, are you more or less dependant on coach and bus transport ? Not a driver at all ?, we've been using partners right hand drive Honda for the past almost two years without any problems apart from a speeding offence and last night after dark we were stopped by the Guardia Civil for a stop go seat belt check.

We have a darts nite get together on Thursdays at Bar Amazir in Urcal, with all the local ex pats in the village if you could get here, very casual, informal and a good laugh mostly lol.

Thanks. for all suggestions there.. I might rent a car but more likely on the next trip. I drive daughter's car  in Mexico (NOT the cities!!)and London (campervan) but both automatic.  Rental costs treble for automatics.  Not that I can't drive gears just hesitant about the right hand changing gears instead of the left - plus unknown areas etc.!  So I expect I'll be pretty local to Mojacar this time.
