Not sure if.It's a Spanish Law but.our Communal Pool has a notice stating this ban. Actually 4 such in.our pool & 1/4 surface would be obscured. Like balls in the pool. It's negative for other users.

I can't answer definitively, but I have been informed that if there is no qualified human lifeguard on duty, lilos are banned.

People in urbanizations are not inclined to hire lifeguards. Certainly, I wouldn't contribute to hiring one.

Of all the arguments I've seen in Mojacar Playa among holiday makers and urbanisation "managers" it is the lilo issue that has caused most distress. The rows over lilos in pools are legendary and make Mike Tyson's boxing efforts look easy.

Hint to any person using an urbanisation:- For a quiet life and happier holiday obey the written rules there and you can't go far wrong.

Lilos in the Pool, a film made entirely on location in Mojacar Playa (based on the stage play by the Dutchman Geddup Demstairs).

The Setting:- An urbanisation in Mojacar Playa.

A lilo is seen in a pool being used by two children playing happily. (Enter soi disant committee member).

SDCM:- (Finger Wagging, Female, from Stage Left) "Yew cont use infl'bles in our pool. Read our Rules on the board."

Children:- (Embarrassed and apologetic) "We won't use the lilo again." (lilo is taken from pool and deflated by older child).

Father of Children (two hours later, he is recovering from hangover from consuming too much cheap beer and feeling hurt in his pocket too after being ripped off in Leeds/Bradford airport. SDCM passes and stares at him with green eyes shining like undimmed headlights):- " All the kids were doing was playing and some wagon decided to ruin their holiday."

SDCM (feeling she is obviously at the receiving end of the comments):- We've got Rules for the enjoyment of everybody here.

FOC:- (Displaying a tattoo or twenty, unshaven, stomach protruding over football shorts, just short of being sunburnt) "In future, I fink it be'her to tok to me or my missus on issues of the children."

SDCM:- (stage whisper "Oh Why! did I open my lipsticked mouth) "Rules must be obeyed. They are there for all our benefit."

FOC:- All they wuz doin' was enjoyin' themselves. You want to ruin our holiday.

SDCM:- Our Rules are the Rules and cannot be changed. This is not Brexit, you know!

(Enter Stage Right, female friend of SDCM)

Female Friend:- Can you not read? No lilos are allowed in the pool area.

(Enter "Missus" of FOC, quietly and eating ice cream - lets fly with some flatulence and enjoys its consequent odour)

Missus:- "Hoooo, d'yew fink you ore? - Yew ore never to correct my children or I'll call the police."

I measure such arguments on the Richter Scale. The scene above is a potential Grade  9. No doubt, the situation could have been managed differently. But, the combatants were from either side of the Watford Gap (in itself, an unbridled recipe for disaster).

At this stage, I'm on the terrace having just run for a glass of tinto verano and some crisps. This is better than any West End production and live before my eyes. It's like Brexit all over again with hitherto quiet people at each others throats and feeling some honour is at stake.

All the participants look bad and augurs badly for the rest of the holiday. Both sides claim wins and both look bad.

The Moral of the Story:- Know your audience before you say anything. . . . and whatever you do, don't say it!

Hi,

So funny. AND TRUE.

Actually don't really bother unless in there doing laps as wear specs and worry about a hurled ball. Often children are without supervision which again is against the rules.

We have no lifeguard at any time of year no changing area or toilet. No hand-rails on tiled stairs made slippery by dripping swimmers & most recommendations for improvements are turned down at every AGM.

However we must be legal as we have a sign at the pool, generally ignored , and our Urbanisation Solicitor is the deputy Mayor for Mojacar.

Saludos,

Bob and Sandra
