Hello, regarding the Covid vaccination programme. I believe those people registered in the health system will be contacted by their medical centre, but what about people not registered on the system. Does anyone know how they'll be contacted?

Very helpful member
I would check with my private health insurer.
I'd be contacting the nearest Health Centre or GP's surgery or Pharmacy and get on some kind of waiting list.

At the moment there is no provision for us. The government won't let the private insurance companies and hospitals have access to the vaccine as the governmnet needs to be in control of who gets it when. The Mojacar ayuntamiento has told me they will not use padron to call people up and it isn't their problem to solve. The health centre in mojacar has told me there is no plan for us to be vaccinated. Andalucian Health are not interested and the British embassy has told me it's up to the Spanish who they vaccinate and they can't help us. It's the same story across Spain I am afraid. Today, however, there may have been a breakthrough in the town of Orgiva in Granada province where the mayor has recognised the problem and devised a plan to get the details of people not in the state system. But that's only one mayor of one town in the whole of Spain I know of!

Many thanks for the information Juliet, also Jack and Matthew.
It's as I suspected, there is no provision for people not on the state health system, but with private health care. Very worrying as there must be a lot of people in the same situation. I had hoped they would use the padron, but obviously not. Surely, to be effective, the more people vaccinated the better??

...he better??
Sue, You're right - I too would hope that the vaccination would be given almost on demand to anybody seeking it. Covid infection from an "illegal" immigrant or a legal resident is the same tragic thing. This is no time for sacred cows.
There are vaccines for all. My source is The Local - I’m unable to share the link but have a search for Article dated 22nd Feb, updated from 3rd Feb: ‘Reader question: How do I get a COVID vaccine if I’m not in Spain’s public health system?’

EXACTLY! THIS IS LAW!
I went to my local medical centre and asked them to call me when it's my turn/age. Showed her my NIE number and said I am not registered there but I know I am entitled to the Covid-19 vaccine.
The receptionist initially wasn't sure but soon agreed as soon as I showed her this:
"THE SPANISH GOVERNEMNT HAD EMPHASIZED THAT NO DISTINCTION WILL BE MADE BETWEEN CITIZENS AND NON-CITIZENS AND HAS PLEDGED TO VACCINATE EVERYONE ,( PAY ATTENTION) EVERYONE IN THE COUNTRY, REGARDLESS OF THEIR LEGAL STATUS AND THAT INCLUDES THOSE NOT REGISTERED WITHIN SOCIAL SECURITY SYSTEM INCLUDING "ILLEGAL" IMMIGRANTS AND THE HOMELESS.
ALL THOSE LIVING IN SPAIN WILL BE ABLE TO RECEIVE THE VACCINATION AGAINST THE VIRUS AS THE CAMPAIGN UNROLLS. VACCINATION IS UNIVERAL, IT INCLUDES ALL PEOPLE"
(HEALTH MINISTRY)
When the vaccination started in Spain, the STRATEGY explicitly stated that when it comes to the vaccine, "each person must be considered and treated with equal dignity and rights".
"This principle prohibits prioritizing access to vaccines based solely on characteristics such as race, ethnicity, sex, age, nationality, origin, disabilities, economic or social condition and others"
I hope everyone makes sure they gets their "Vacuna"!
