just like to say had a Mammogram at the hospital last week, arranged by my interpreter over the phone with the doctor at Mojacar medical centre.  got a phone call the next day called for an Ultra scan immediately, then today a biopsy procedure carried out with great care and a good attempt at English by the doctor, better than my Spanish!  I was a bit faint afterwards and they took great care to make sure i was ok before I left.  My interpreter went with me and was  very good too {Anna Parra Ridao based in the village  tel 617830513 recommended} just have to wait 15 days now for results cross fingers.

reading the UK news just glad I am here in Spain and not on a waiting list there!

follow up appointment yesterday to be told that I do have breast cancer, bit of a shock.  unfortunately my interpreter was not available so I had to struggle with my limited Spanish and the consultant's limited English but we managed.  now I have an appointment next week to see the various consultants for possible treatment inc surgery.  Has anyone experience of this they can share with me?  I am a very positive person so am seeing the whole thing as a blip in life.

Just a warning though, I had this hard area in my breast over 3 years ago and had 2 mammograme in successive years which showered nothing and I was told by the doctor not to worry about it!  during lockdown I thought it wasn't right so I pushed for another mammogram and I was right.  So if you think that there is something  different about your breasts then keep pushing until you get a scan.  Wish me luck.

Hi Alicia,

same thing happened to me in september, was in spain and went to scratch my breast and found a lump! Total shock! But I flew back to the uk, had a mammogram that told me it was cancer, grade 1 and they took it out within two weeks, just waiting for radiotherapy now I have three weeks of that then tamoxifen for five years, try and keep positive, the waiting can be hard but am sure now you have a diagnosis they will act quickly

very quick indeed saw consultant again last week then in succession chest xray, blood test, ECG and operation booked for wednesday.  got to be at the hospital at 7.45am for day surgery home by the evening so they say.  they have decided to do a lumpectomy so will keep breast then radiotherapy.  I was worried as have had this hard area for over 3 years and always been told nothing to worry about but can't fault the actions once diagnosed.

so had op on wed and apart from feeling sore all ok so far. back to see consultant on Mon and to have drain removed and then will know for sure whether I need further treatment or that is it.

just to say that I was told to report to the reception desk in the main hospital building and some one would take me to the ward, in fact this didn't happen and I got lost looking for the place and had to go back to the reception and ask for help.  After that my lack of Spanish was a small problem dealt with by the staff with sign language.  nothing to eat all day except warm milk and dry biscuits at 4pm and discharged at 7pm.  pharmacy in the hospital closed so had to go to Mojacar next day for meds.

wonder if would still be on a waiting list in the UK.

My treatment in the uk was amazing, because of Covid I had my operation in a private hospital within ten days of my diagnosis, could not fault them they wasted no time at all in moving things forward
