Hi All

I have looked at the relevant section on this website but some of the advice is quite old.

Please could someone recommend a health insurance rep or company (preferably English speaking as our Spanish is not great yet)?

We are legally resident, not working and pre state retirement age. (Irish if that makes a difference)

Thanks so much

One of the requirements for residencia is some kind of health care … how did you get residencia if you don’t have health care?

Depending on how long you’ve been here, Convenio Especial is a possibility.  If you have been legally resident for a year you can pay a nominal sum and go onto the Spanish health system (I believe there are some restrictions though)

Once you have been here 5 years and are permanent resident you qualify for Spanish Health Care system without payment.

Thanks for your response, we currently have health insurance with a global company and we were interested in finding out if there could be less expensive policies available when our policy expires.

Aha - after posting I wondered if that was it.  My advice would be to search “Convenio Especial in Andalucia” as that will certainly be cheaper

Hi

FYI from the Convenio Especial in Andalucia website

Currently, the amount of this fee is € 60 for people under 65 and € 157 for those over that age.

I have found that there are a lot of private optons at cheaper rates

@arm110 your best bet is to possibly find a broker in the area and get some quotes.

there are a numeber of englsih speaking ones in the Vera/Nojacar area

Thanks for that Airtaine - not using private health I have absolutely no idea what rates are.

But the idea of a broker is excellent and I would like to recommend Maxine Morgan of Maxine Morgan Insurance who is based at Las Buganvillas in Vera (on the Vera - Garrucha road)

Maxine is a native English speaker and very very helpful.

Thanks so much for your advice, it is much appreciated and it seems that a visit to a broker will certainly save us money.
