Hi all

We are new to the forum so hello all. We purchased a property last year in El Pinar and are hoping to move out permanently in the summer this year. We have holidayed in the area for the last 8 years and fell in love with the place. My husband and I are planning early retirement - we are under 50 - allowing us time to focus on the house and our son who will be 13 when we come out. As we are not planning on working I just wondered if there was any advice from locals regarding healthcare as we won't be eligible for state cover if we don't have any social security contributions. We have concerns that if we don't have anything and require help we will be faced with a big bill or even have a refusal to help at the medical centre. The other question is would our son get free cover as he is under 16? Sorry for the long post!

Thanks, Tina

Hola, so how brave is this at Brexit time????!!!! Good for you. No idea about schooling but hopefully there are parents out there. One thing obviously lessons are in.Spanish and it can be hard on the.children. Tutors are available I'm sure as these have been reported on the forum before. Also I imagine you will start intensive tutoring in UK. Now there are a plethora of Private Health Schemes individually tailored but dependent on pre-existing conditions if any. You may find your current Spanish Insurer has one. Otherwise you have Avalon, BUPA  and the one we have our Funeral plan with but can't remember-senile moment!!!! May be worth sounding them out. However I do believe you can pay.into the Spanish system and for that maybe contact your Solicitor, unless he was a waste of space as many are. CAM Concepts in Zurgena may answer a quick query. However when you move out don't forget your EHIC. Legions of Brits living here permanently have signed on as Temp. Res's for years pretending they were on.extended.Holliday. With EHIC & Passport no Urgencias can refuse treatment and.the vast majority of meds can be purchased.OTC at any.pharmacy. Hope that's been of some use and please feel.free to pm if anything specific.

Hi Bob and Sandra

Thanks for your reply! We will have a hunt around and also look into the Pay in scheme. Our son has got his place at the school sorted - we came out in Feb and got lots sorted - except health care! Luckily he has been learning Spanish at school so should find it a little less daunting. We are certainly looking forward to coming out and starting a new life. I will PM you too with regards the post. Thanks again.

Thanks, Tina

Hello Tina,

Please look at the Spanish Citizens Advice site. They have up to date accurate information about everything you will need to know. Also you can have a one to one with an advisor. Whilst many people will give you their take on things, it is best to get the correct information.

They have a website

www.citizensadvice.org.es

There is also a facebook page.

I hope this will help you.

Good luck!

Gill

What excellent info. I myself will make note of this. How did you become aware and is it a recent innovation?

Best Wishes,

Bob and Sandra

Not sure how long they have around but their info is up to date and correct, over the years they have helped me with problems with work contracts and unemployment rights. I find it much better than listening to someone in a bar that thinks he knows the law! They keep abreast of all the on going changes to Spanish legislation and will be invalueable with their info when the UK leaves the EU.

Hi Tina

Thank you for posting this question as it is going to help us as well, we came out in February this year too, fell in love with  the area and made a life changing decision as well. We are purchasing a property in Lubrin and hopefully should make the permanent move in August this year. We will be coming on our own as our children have grown up and have lives of their own. So scary yet massively exiting as well. So much to do and organise, I emailed the Spanish healthcare department this morning found their details on the foreign commonwealth office website so hopefully will hear back from them soon. We have our NIE's and I believe our bank account has now been opened, so its getting very real. Just got to sell our house and we shall be on our way to a new life in the sun.
