Hi all

We’ve been here nearly 6 weeks now and getting used to the area and all, slowly but surely. I am liking lots of things and in general my husband and I are very happy with our decision to move to this area in particular.

My only concern is doctors, clinics , physios and etc in the area. Thing is our S1 arrived and we applied for residency through our lawyers but it’s not ready yet. Only then can I register with a doctor/surgery.

My question is: what is the best surgery and doctors around here? What experiences do you guys have with that? Can I use more than one surgery or doctor? I am in desperate need of physiotherapy and paying private is going to cost me. However, if someone can recommend a clinic of say, Chiropractic, Ostheo or similar who PERFORMS TESTS as well as exercises, I would love to hear about it and wouldn’t mind going private.

I am suffering with really bad back and shoulder pain every day and need to do something about it now whilst waiting for my residency to come through.

Thanks for any help!

When your residencia comes through, if you are over 65 you will qualify for free health care and you will be assigned a GP when you register at your local health Centre.  I suppose you already have been told this.

At the moment, and also if you are not working here paying your social security contributions, you will have to opt for private medicine which is covered by your health insurance policy  should you have one.  You can then choose your doctor  but  many policies do not cover treatment by chiropractors or osteopaths.

I had tortícolis once and went to Enrique Arias on Mojacar Playa for treatment. He is an osteopath and is very good and I can recommend him.  I also noticed that there is a lady chiropractor in Turre in the Calle Libertad (no. 44?).  I think she is French but that's all I know.  Hope this helps.

Hello Juanida, thanks for your message. Yes I know about the residency status and I am over 65 in receipt of uk pension so I know I will have free medical care when I get the residency status.

I do not have private medical insurance as I didn’t think it was going to take a while for residency... but I don’t mind paying private if I find someone who can help. I will check your Osteopath, thanks for recommending! You’re very kind!

Kind regards

we are registered with the Mojacar medical centre near the Parque Commercial centre.   they insist that you use an interpreter if you can't speak and understand good Spanish but we have found they are very good so far.  during the Covid times we have had face to face appointments on time.  we have had our flu jabs and also were given the pneumonia one at the same time without asking.  they have the contacts for several interpreters on their notice board if you need one.

for physio there is a clinic in Garrucha on the seafront past the town hall which is very good.  for massage there is a place on the Playa in MOjacar near the Irish Rover who are english and deal with sports injuries etc.

Wow  thanks So much for that . I assume you had your residency when you registered with the medical Center in Mojacar right? Our problem our residency isn’t ready yet, we’ve handed in all the paperwork and the lawyers will let us know when we’ve got it resolved.

Meanwhile I managed to be seen by a doctor in Los Gallardos about my shoulder pain and had an X Ray too. But no physiotherapy offered. Just tablets and she said “go to a private physio if you can.

I did find a physio clinic in Garrucha online called Clínica Vega, I thought it looked promising for me. Is that the one you meant ?

Thanks again for your recommendations!

Sorry also forgot to say if you need to use a private Doctor there is a clinic now situated on the bullring roundabout. The lady doctor there is lovely. There is no need to make an appointment. Dr Nunez in Mojacar is also very good but you sometimes have to wait quite a while for an appointment.
