Hi,
Have no fear, at least currently. We are in the same situation and both covered. Of course I am the OAP, my wife just a chick.

Richedgolf, if you are in receipt of your State pension then you can apply to gov.uk ( overseas department) for an S1 form. They will need yours and your wife's National Insurance numbers and other details. If you are not officially resident here, then you should apply and by using the S1 form and proof of income you should receive residencia. You then need to go to the Social Security office in your area and sign on for health care.
I hope that helps.

Much appreciated.
Hi,
I need to apologise. I totally misread your post. Bit of a senile moment.

Good morning,
in order to get residencia in Spain a person, or couple must prove they have sufficient income and medical cover. The medical cover can either be private health cover or if you are an OAP you can get an S1 from the UK government which is proof that they will pay Spain for your healthcare.
If anyone is in doubt, please contact a professional. He/she will know all the regulations.
Have a great day.

No John99Andrew, Jack was absolutely right. You get the S1 from the DWP first. This will ensure that a married couple (with at least one pensioner) get free access to health here in Spain once they obtain residence here.
We did this in August this year after arriving 30 May. We had to also get our pension letter from the DWP officially translated. Once we got residency we then obtained the Tarjeta Sanitaria (health access card).
