Hi everyone

Another question as we plan our first viewing trip to Mojacar! I am just wondering about security & crime if we are lucky enough to find a holiday home in Mojacar or surrounding area. Initially we will only be visiting for a few weeks a year, until able to retire. So just wondering if security is a problem and if so, what measure can you, or do you take? For example, those that have a holiday home already, do you get someone local to keep an eye on things whilst you are away? Are there companies that will do this and if so, any recommendations?

Thank you.

Gary & Ali

Hi,

We live here for part of the year and have 2 properties one of which is remote & rural and there we have had 2 burglaries & an attempted. There we have double rejjas, motorcycle locks, security posts on drive & a local who visits twice a week for security, weeding, etc although hunters also watch. If we had internet we could have security cameras slaved to smartphone.

So, to the Mojacar apt. We live on a gated compound. Pointless actually as morons leave the gates open constantly. Glad we are not on ground floor!!!!! Our corridor is gated before our apartment door and the end window has a locking rejja. All at our expense. Security cameras to terrace and corridor covering our apartment. Unfortunately our neighbour is a drunk so no use there but we do have real friends who visit while we are away. Real friends.

Obviously appropriate Comprehensive Insurance for belongings. Safe.

Insurance through Liberty Seguros with Ged in Mojacar near Irish Rover which allows you to be absent for 180 days.

If I have missed anything then let me know.

Crooks everywhere.

Saludos,

Bob and Sandra

Cheers Bob & Sandra,

Can I ask how long you have had your apartment in Mojacar and have you had any burglaries there? One thing I am quite keen on is to not look at ground floor options (although I have seen a nice townhouse within budget!). Crime everywhere I guess.

Thanks again

Gary

So true.

Actually ground floor apts are rated as at greater risk & thus possibly slightly higher insurance premium.

Never a problem in Mojacar although episodically see burglaries reported on the local Facebook Forums. Only one on this apartment block since we moved in in 2013. We don't rent. We changed all locks when we purchased as apartment had been a rental.

Interesting we have just had about 2 months of street robberies thought to be by an organised Romanian / Lithuanian gang,  and a gang working on the AP 7.

With a town house, duplex, villa you get less disturbance than with an apartment. We not only have the drunk next door but another female drunk, this one Brit. on the complex. I wouldn't dream of staying here July/ August and this Easter is rammed. Gratefully we have the cottage and I return to tranquillity tomorrow in spite of the promised bad weather.

Saludos,

Bob and Sandra

Yep, and when are we visiting...….Easter! Has to be that way as our son wants to come whilst on Uni break to 'help' with the search! So a

townhouse / duplex could be an ok option then?

Thanks

Gary

Hi,

Would take that over an apartment.
