when walking along the playa in Mojacar there used to be an area near the stables where frogs lived and waste water was filtered through plants to the sea.  now it has been completely removed and looks like a bomb site.  Why?  there are numerous palm weevel dead palm trees along the playa that would have been better removed.  such a shame to lose the frogs home.

It's called tourism. That area was an eyesore for years and about two years ago a seat was installed there along with some plants. So now it's being improved again. So the casualties are the frogs and insects?  Have you evidence?

no except that it now is an eyesore with nothing except a stagnant side area a river of waste water to the sea and mud and sand wouldn't want to sit on a bench there now Matthew.   not a frog in site.

This area used to be quite pretty but some of the plants were too invasive and choked the pond. The water is not waste water. It is fresh. Also the frogs are still there I hear them every day. I read somewhere that the pond was removed because of mosquitos breeding there. I would have thought that the frogs, which are numerous, would have kept the mosquito larvae under control. I agree that now it looks a complete mess.

I gather that immediate area is a mess at the moment. But, every site is a mess before completion of the improvements. I'm glad the mozzies are being "euthenazed" though. Now for the feral cats of the area . . . Looks like I'll miss the sounds of the frogs.

Thanks Devo. I use that area to read up on my horses. Nice place to get some study in with Cheltenham coming.
