We are thinking about moving to Los Gallardos as we like the amenities and proximinity to the coast etc. Can anyone provide the "did & don'ts" advice in living there please? We are not interested in Hortes Nuevas, just the village of Los Gallardos itself. Many thanks in advance for any helpful advice.

Thank you Norma for your comments and I appreciate everything that you have said. However, we did spend over 3 years researching various areas of Spain before concentrating on Almeria and then finally fully researching what part of Mojacar where we would like to purchase. Reading comments on this forum and others really helped me to be aware of potential pitfalls.

I think it is critical that we all go into things with our eyes open and as far as possible I beleive we managed to do that. For us, it was all about the location / views and the feeling that we are on holiday when we visit, because that is what is, a holiday apartment. We managed to find an apartment in a very small complex with a view to die for and we are so excited to be picking our keys up later this month.

Thank again

Gary

Hi All,

This thread is nearly five years old. Brexit has kicked in, Covid-19 took us all like a tidal wave. We've all got a bit more mature since. Do you still feel the same as previously posted?

Hi Mathew,

Well that was a quick 5 years! Hope you are well.

No regrets in purchasing when and where we ended up (Southern end of the playa). Of course COVID messed things up somewhat as we completed June 2019 and soon after could not visit for couple of years. We didn’t intend to rent out, but as the place was already a rental it had repeat clients in place who have been no problem whatsoever. Only rent July & August (too busy and hot for us).  Brexit………… as you know this has meant increase in tax rates and unable to offset costs. That’s all I want to say about the B word as it just winds me up as does the clowns in government. The apartment still feels like a new experience to us and we appreciate all the time we spend there. My son and daughter and families are making good use of it too, which is what it’s all about. One of our best life decisions I would say. All the best.

Hi Gary. Mojacar is lovely in most respects and for many people it's the perfect destination, but try before you buy as I doubt that 2 weeks will be long enough to really get a proper idea of what it's like all year-round.

You said that it's not over commercialised. It all depends on how you judge that but it is really quite touristy and becoming more so. There are dozens, maybe hundreds , of bars and restaurants and many are open all year round. July and August are super busy and the traffic along the paseo is horrible . Restaurants are packed and parking is difficult. Out of season it's better but I was there last Sunday and it was very busy indeed. Regarding high rise there's plenty in the Marina de ka Torre area. There's a reason why apartments are cheaper there - it's a long way from the centre and prettier parts of Mojacar and  has fewer facilities. Having said that it's probably  a little quieter in summer although there are a few large hotels in the area so the beach gets very full.

I'm not trying to put you off, just make sure the area is what you want. We bought an apartment in the Ventanicas el Cantal area 4 years ago and never regretted it. That's the prettiest part of the town with the best beach, in my opinion anyway. Enjoy your holiday and best of luck with your search.

Hi Juliet

I think you may have replied to my original 2019 post, which I updated yesterday in a reply to ‘Mathew’.

Anyway, it sounds like we might be near neighbours! We purchased in the Ventanicas area 4 years ago too. We are in Residencial Oasis (Calle Belgica). Totally agree with you regarding the area, lovely beach and much quieter. Big fans of the restaurant in La PARATA and Tito’s beach bar. I think when I alluded to high rise / commercialism, I was comparing to certain places along the costa del sol etc, but yes take your point. Never really seen the place ultra busy because we don’t go during the mad season of July & August. Favourite months for us is May, Sept, Oct and even Nov is still good weather wise.

Best wishes, Gary.

Hi Paul,

Mojacar is lovely and buying there is one of our best life decisions. Ok, I know some would  say don’t buy and just rent as it’s so cheap to do so. This is of course correct, but for us, we love the feeling of owning our own little place in the sun, that all the family can and do use frequently. We spent around 3 years prior to purchasing doing research, without actually visiting the place. However, we knew pretty much straight away that Mojacar was for us and when we arrived to view properties and it didn’t take long to know what particular area we preferred. No regrets whatsoever and I wish you well in your search. Please feel free to message me if you need help with anything. All the best, Gary

Hi Gary,

We have recently purchased in marina de la Torre but only two rows back from the beach.

We love it! 20 minute walk into Garrucha, 35 minute walk into Mojacar. Two fantastic beach bars (which are open to 8pm) within 5 minutes.

Close to racket club and golf course.

Yet far enough away not to get caught in summer rush.

Visited and bought our of season to ensure we knew what was there all year round!

Best decision ever.

Hi Bigjim

Yes, the whole area takes some beating, love Garrucha too. Enjoyed playing golf at Marina last year, although the 19th hole seems to be boarded up now! Wishing you many happy hols 🌴
