Rishi Sunak Calls a General Election for 4th July 2024

And not a moment too soon!! I guess this will be his goodbye now.  

Been a lame PM since the day he slithered into the job.

Lets just hope with the UK national debt Labour will be able to put any good ideas they have into practice. 

In RoI newspapers, news radio stations, political programmes on tv have sprung into life. Events in Northern Ireland again come under the spotlight too. I watched ITV News on tv last night too. 

The common denominator of all details concerning the timing of the General Election is that things are not going to get better. There's zilch in the political kitty for tax reductions. Illegal immigration is increasing. The cost of housing. Inflation probably is under control on the short term, at least. Apathy is on the rise amongst the white British Home Grown Voter.

Is this election a foregone conclusion that the Tories will be hammered? - They'll be beaten but not hammered.

Will Labour form the next government alone? - I don't think so - A coalition on the way..

The only certainty is uncertainty.. . . and we in Ireland know how unpredictable the British Voter can be. 

I’m going to say that Tories will lose, but not by as much as is predicted in polls; that being said I predict Labour will secure sufficient seats to form majority government.

And I’m registered for a postal vote … yessssss

I'm having doubts about Keir Starmer. I know less about him that I do the Moors Murderers. He doesn't exude dynamism, hope or even good personality. Boris, for all his faults did these although through lying teeth. 

My gut feeling is that Labour will go into coalition. I hope they don't have to depend on the ever noisy Northern Ireland Unionists like the Tories. 

If the polls are to be even partly believed, Labour will win a comfortable majority.

It’s good that you don’t know much about Keir - it means that he’s keeping quiet, letting Tories destroy themselves and not giving ANYONE an angle of attack.  Opposition doesn’t win an election - the incumbents lose them.  Keir Starmer knows this and is allowing the Tories all the limelight to continue losing the election.

He is staying very grey; very centrist, middle-of-the-road, projecting stability, alienating no one except the extremists.  He’s presenting himself as the quietly spoken, sensible, stable choice.  I feel once he gets in, he’ll go about the business of undoing 14 years of Tory incompetence, neglect and corruption in the same quiet, unhurried way … he’ll be criticized (of course) … but things will happen.

Again I am predicting a Labour government will see UK once again move closer to the EU.  Not a full member, but quite possibly Common Market.  He’s said that he’ll “make Brexit work” … well staying out of being a full member but just being Common Market is “making Brexit work” … never mind that that means restoration of Freedom of Movement … :-D

Sorry to disagree Mathew but inflation declared is a smoke screen. The drop in inflation only applies to the last quarter and not from the time inflation rose to almost 11%. Figures can be made to say whatever you what them to say. Especially when you are taking to a nation that seems to have forgotten how to question and substantiate the problem.

when Starmer can recognise that women do not have a penis he will get some respect from me but the man flips and flops from one decision to another.  Pity there do not seem to be any strong female politicians to be elected.

good news is that the pound to the euro went up which is great, but expect it to plummet soon.

Will a Labour government compensate us WASPIs?  Hope so if they get in but don't envy the home country as they make that decision.   

I agree to some extent. I am not a fan of any of British politicians, they all flip and flop as you say. It all depends on who tells the biggest lies. Especially now the biggest lier in history has gone. Sunac has called a general election to distance himself from the billions of pounds in compensation the country now faces in payouts. What a coward. Starter is gutless and stabs his own benchers in the back. I am just thankful I live here and don't have to drink their water.
