Hello everyone,

can anyone recommend some pretty winter plants to put in troughs and pots that the ibex don't like to eat?

Many thanks.

Oleander (Adelfa), defiinately.   Myrtle and Arbutus, probably.   Don't know about Ibis, but rabbits don't like geraniums.

Not sure if you know but Oleander is poisonous to pets.  Not sure about the other two.

Thank you benson2920, yes I did know and I don't like oleander anyway.

So pleased you knew.  I have 3 dogs and didn't know until a few years ago.  Needless to say we don't have any now!

Good luck with your garden

My dogs and cat never tried to eat oleander.  I think most animals sense what's good to eat and what is not, with the exception possibly of  puppies, and toddlers.

I think there are so many poisoness things (eg. Chocolate being toxic for dogs, ) that  one cannot, 'nit pick' and worry too much over this sort of thing to the extent of excluding them from our homes. There seem to be so many things that we used to accept without so much fear and fuss these days!

Another one to add to the list is Carissa but it won't flower in the winter.  Very few will.  Christmas Roses of course will, but they like a bit of shade and most bulbs of course and rhizomes, like Iris.  Christmas Cactus can be brought outside  (if it doesn't rain and isn't too cold).

Oh, some of these are poisoness, in case you think they are likely to be eaten!
