Our ferry from santander for may 27th has just been cancelled so having been here for 3 momths we have decided to bite the bullet and drive home through France and get the tunnel to the uk. We are planning a route from Mojacar to Girona up through France to Chartres then on to Calais. We are travelling with our dog Ted who travels well. Any advice from anyone who has travelled this route would be wonderful. We have taken FCO advice and got attestation forms for our travel through France and will be stayimg in approved hotels. Thank you in advance x

Hi. Personally I wouldn't go anywhere near Chartres - too near Paris. I have done the Girona, Lyon, Dijon, Reims route a couple of times. But my preferred route is Albacete, round the Madrid by pass and then Burgos and San  Sebastion. Then Bordeaux, Tours, Le Mans, Rouen. Fill up with fuel before you cross from Spain to France, you'll probably have enough to get you to Calais then or at the most a splash and dash at French prices.

I've always found this route to have less road works through France. It's a couple of days for me from Mojacar to Calais but that is hard driving with an overnight stop somewhere south of Bordeaux. The worst part of any trip is hitting a city at rush hour , either morning or evening so going through Bordeaux at a weekend would be a good idea!

Hope this is of some help.

regards,

JensonJacques7

We were sailing back from Bilbao on 28th of May, but have received nothing from Brittany ferries, and I cannot log in on their website. Have you had similar problems? We have decided to wait for the next available ferry. Nick

If you just go on the website and click the covid19 info and read the ceos message they have cancelled all may sailings and are issuing refund vouchers that are valid for 2 years and aftet speaking to someone who works at portsmouth ferryport June lools unlikely too.

All ferries have been cancelled up to and including 1 June. It is on the website under the Corona virus heading. We are due to travel to Garrucha via Santander on 2nd June but I’m expecting it to be cancelled with no sailings until 22nd June at the earliest.

Excellent route, we have travelled this lots of times. Rouen can be a bit busy, you have to watch the underpasses through the city, but have a good trip!
