Just get yourselves over here and have a go :)

You will soon see how you figure it out.

Beers on me when you get here,

Kev.

Good evening both. Ok time to get things into perspective.

When you come over here, you have to remember you don't need to treat it as one long holiday. The mentality needs to change. You know when you are over for a fortnight holiday, you know full well you only have a certain amount of time to cram as much in as you possibly can. Hey your on holiday so ...

...of course we need to live life to the minute....eating out all the time...drinking in bars...seeing the sights hiring cars etc etc etc.

That's where a lot of people get their maths from...."oh my god,we spent 2 grand on holiday this summer and what have we got to show for it apart from a headache and a slightly larger waistline that's a little sunburnt.

My point I am trying to say is that there is no rush to do everything in one go and therefore no need to spend a lot of money "living the life to the full"

When you are here longer you get to find the best places to eat,the best places to shop and where and who to avoid !

I am not trying to be condescending in way but 1500 euros is a hell of a lot of money to live on a month. You don't really need to change what you do, just do it in a different mind-set.

Like most people here will tell you, a lot of the stuff over here is cheaper than the UK. You will enjoy looking for the good places to go and eating and drinking here is relatively cheap if you know where to go.

I bet you could half that budget and even after paying your taxes and utilities you would be considerably be better off than being in the UK.

Hope this helps,if you have any questions or need advice, just give us a shout or anyone here will help as best they can.

Enjoy yourselves in the sun,

Kev

Hi Kev, I do agree 100% with your comments.  Things are different when you live here compared to a holiday. Also the budget of €1500is more than enough.

All depending on lifestyle and shopping habits mind, if someone does their weekly food shop in Iceland,  tge money won't go very far. 😁

Personally I find things expensive in Spain. A simple basic snack style of meal will cost £12 when in England it might cost perhaps £7 for the same thing.

Isnt it a simple case of writing down a list of everything you buy in an average week day-by-day and then pricing it up in Spain? It sounds boring but it will give a more scientific basis for judgement.

1500 a month, that's 18000 a year. It should be enough but if you live life to the full you might begin to run thin on funds after a while.

Hi

We are heading out to look at properties with a view to retiring early. We are both now all clear from cancer and have decided life is for living in the sun.  We are not big spenders and good at budgeting so your info on costs monthly and yearly are very helpful.  We won't be working and will be living off savings and won't get pension for 7-9 yrs.  So will be vigilant over costs.  We are selling over here and will be using that to buy property over there.

So again thanks for the info. Greatly appreciated

Susan and Godfrey

Hi  At the risk of boring you all to death I am going to ask "again" the impossible question to answer but would appreciate your advice and comments. Its the same question I have seen asked.scores of times but feel I have got to ask it myself.

Here goes  We are middle aged couple no dependents Intend to rent a house in the Mojacar general area, after paying the rent we will have at first approx E1,500 left to live on per month, we will run a car, we do live life to the full with regard to eating and drinking. We eventually  b...

...oth intend to work part time as well.

So question 1 can we do it at first on E1,500   Question 2 Is it realistic to assume we will find work of some kind.

Sorry to ask the same old question.... Help please   Mark and Jen

looks like you have got loads of advice. My tuppence for what its worth-1500 euro should give you a comfortable lifestyle in Mojacar.Running a car can be costly enough so I gave up the car.Now I walk and use the bus and the odd taxi.mojacar is small enough to survive without a car.if I need a car to travel to benidorm or Costa del Sol for a few days I hire from Costa Coches.maybe twice a year. For airports I use Excusive Shuttles best service that ever came to Mojacar,

Dan

OMG I’m not sure our budget will be enough after reading those comments we are hoping to live on €12k per year before rent, but we do like to shop in local and cheap, I enjoy cooking and can make a little go a long way ... last time we were in Spain we found lovely Red wine 🍷 at €2 for a 2ltr plastic bottle we are looking at rentals in the Los Gallardos Area we would love to be nearer the coast but they are a bit more pricey... what is Los Gallardos like to retire to?
