I hear Nerja is/has been the latest area for such a television series. Let's cut to the chase here and assume that Costa Almería is on the short list for a future series. I have no problem with good humour but this television series doesn't do any favour to Brits anywhere.

I'm Irish and I won't be contacted by the producers - I'd boast that I'm somewhere ahead of the brain-power of those participating to date. But, there are quite a few prospective contributors to this forum that I fear would have no problem in appearing (just my opinion) and making themselves and their fellow countrymen look stupid. These programmes will be repeated and repeated and once filmed are there forever.

I reckon some of the better posters on this forum will agree with me, but there's always the few who'll accept the few bob and think Hollywood will snap them up at some future date.

Please do us all a favour (even us Irish) and don't make a show of yourself or your friends and family.

Matthew in total agreement with you. Some of the stuff is cringe worthy. I admit to watching it…..a bit like a car crash…..I shouldn’t look but I do.

Even the best of them look like scroungers. Only here for the cheap booze and the sun. I may have missed one but I’m yet to see anyone embrace the culture of the country or introduce their Spanish friends.

Whether these people are really that way or the producers of the programme tell them to ‘act’ that way I don’t know. 🙄

The programs always seem to be so … fake? Forced?  Not believable, anyway.

I know someone here who actually appeared on one of these programs … I’ll have to ask them how “real” it was … I’m guessing it’ll be much the same as every other (un)reality TV Show though

oh but you all watch them for the cringe value and the errors of judgement.  Of course it's not such a Bargain now and not easy for the Brit Pensioner on limited income to come for their Live in the Sun.  It's a shame that all the repeats don't have a disclaimer stating what the rules are now since Brexit which have been a game changer for most.

Approx 22 years ago, my husband worked in the TV/Film industry, and we were approached by a producer friend to do a 'pilot' series for A Place in The Sun. There were 6 pilots made, and we did one in the western Algarve Portugal. It was great fun, all expenses paid. We didn't buy at the time but 2 years later we did, as the TV company had done great research and showed us places we would never have found on a normal buying trip. Unfortunately 22 years later I still find myself on TV channels such as Dave. But if you are offended by such programs then there is a little button on your TV or remote that if you press such programs will disappear!!

Lovely post Jenni, but as dynamic as a hand-brake in a canoe. When you press that button the only person for which that programme disappears is you - many thousands of viewers will continue to see the programme now and for years to come.

Look at it this way - In one hundred years time somebody somewhere may resurrect that piece of television in which you appeared and replay it for your descendants. I didn't know you're quite the star.

Perhaps there's a repeat performance for you in Bargain Loving Brits in the Sun?
