What do people use to water their plants while away?

I would like to invest in several gorgeous large pots and fill them with plants for our terrace but it's a 2nd home and we're not there all the time.
I have seen irrigation systems, with tubing between pots, which I think can be quite expensive, and wondered if there are other options and what people recommend?
