Is this a good place to stay to get the lie of the land? Initially I want to rent a mobile and then maybe six months down the line look at buying. I don't speak Spanish so looking to meet up with ex pats to make friends and maybe do Spanish lessons in exchange for some handyman work.

I'm thinking a site with a bar and pool will make it easier to meet people rather than being cooped up in an apartment.

Hi, I dont know the campsite as I’m not in Spain yet, but that sounds like a sensible plan!!

Sorry i don’t know how to link another thread here, but if you search the Mojacar area forum there are a couple of active threads about people moving to the area , one is called being single and moving to Mojacar , join that and say hello to lots of people in the same position as you are!!

Welcome aboard

Hi Beannie! I'll certainly look at the friends forum. That sounds like a good way forward. Problem for me is I'm initially a bit shy and then once I get to know people I'm outrageous.

Regards

Paul

Hi Paul,

I posted the initial post " being single and living in Mojacar and surrounding areas" .

I have had absolutely loads of replies, some from other single people who are wanting to move to the area and replies from people who already live in the area, singles and couples who have offered advice etc. It has been a very helpful excercise. I have also joined some Facebook Forums which again have been invaluable for asking questions and gleaning information from other people's questions.

I know you said you were shy at first, it's a big step for most people to make new friends in a new place but one has to push the boundaries sometimes especially if you want a social life. You have taken a great first step by posting on this forum.

Good Luck

Sandra.

Good morning Sandra

Thank you for your reply. It's very helpful. It is a big step and the only thing that is stopping me is me. With that in mind I've ordered "Get out of your own way" off Amazon and it should arrive today. I just have to read it after that.

I'm also expecting at least one offer on my house today and if it's of the right magnitude that'll be the house sold and my wife and I will split the proceeds.I think I'm taking on three of four most stressful situation at once. Selling a house, separating from my spouse and moving to another country so it should be plain sailing after that.

The reason I favour a mobile home over an apartment is I think I'd meet people quicker. Bar, pool, restaurant should be good places to meet up with people. I'm just not so good at making the first move. I also have two kittens which I want to bring with me or at least have transported over once i get settled and pets are always an icebreaker so the natural outdoor setting would encourage that. The kittens are also very sociable so they'll make friends even if I don't.

I've never been to Mojacar which may seem strange given I'm considering moving there. However I've been up and down the costas and never quite found where I want to be. Sometimes the beach is too steep, others is the lack of amenities type of thing. I noted that someone said it gets very busy with tourists. That doesn't bother me. I live near and work in Edinburgh. In the summer the population goes from circa 440,000 to 1million with the festivals and I love it.

Sorry this is going on a bit so I'll finish here. I seem to have lost how to put my own post on.

Regards

Paul

Hi

We lived on a mobile home park for 8 years near Antequera and loved it.  It is a very easy way to meet new people... When you are a 'newbie' everyone will want to help out and give you advice.  If there's a bar and pool even better. It is a great way to find your feet and get your confidence.

Good luck

Wow Paul you are taking a lot on at the moment but once you set your heart on making a completely new life for yourself. Just ahead at what your life could be like in the near future!!

Good luck with selling your house, that’s what I’m doing now and hope to complete soon.

Regards

Sandra

Miraflores in Los Gallardos is a lovely site. It has regular entertainment, fantastic restaurant and the staff are wonderful. During the lockdown they worked extremely hard to keep all their residents safe and well. 100% recommended. Good luck!

Yes I too think Miraflores at Los Gallardos is a good option. It's about 10/15 minutes drive to the coast, shops etc but the site itself has a small shop, bar, restaurant, pool etc. There's live entertainment most weekends, spanish lessons etc. I know a few people who have started their life in Spain by living on this site.

Good luck

Hope all goes well for you.
