We are planning to move out to Spain after the new year, we a family with two kids aged 8 & 13, what do we need to know ?

Do we need to have a certain amount in bank accounts etc, we are planning  to buy outright to be honest I just want my kids out of the uk and to have a better life, we plan to come over and look at areas that may be good for us do far I’m thinking mojacar and villamartin any advise would be helpful regarding areas with schools etc xx

TBH You may want a better life but for children aged 8 & 13 it will be difficult unless they are fluent in Spanish.

Very young children can cope with the change and generally pick up a second language easily but to disrupt the education of older children particularly your 13 year old could be disastrous for their future.

Jobs are hard to come by in Spain, harder than the UK and much lower pay scales.

If you can afford to use a private international school this may help but otherwise if it's really a better life for your children that you want, I would wait until they finish their UK education, especially if you want them to go onto further education like university. At least then they would have qualifications to fallback on and if things do not work out for them in Spain they may be able to get decent jobs back in the UK.

I hope I'm wrong, but it seems that Natasha and family are heading for a disaster. It appears little or no planning was done. It looks like somebody diving into the deep end of a swimming pool and not being able to swim.

Hi, we’re not jumping in we are looking to do this hopefully in the furtive it not something we need to rush into, it’s somerhjng we want to look into and obviously look into in depth, we will of course be taking into account our children’s education weather they go Spanish or international school, we have all been taking Spanish lessons for some time hopefully this will help in future, but please do not think we are selling up here and moving out lock stock and barrel that’s not the plan x

The key I think is to at least make an investigative trip out here and start arranging Residencia.  I say this because post March, things / requirements for UK Nationals seeking a new life here will become much much harder -  or so I believe; whatever happens, next years March madness will not be without consequences.  Have you been out here yet and found any likely areas?

A good idea - see anywhere you liked?

Where are you looking when you come back next year?

Depends on what you are looking for I suppose - there are plenty of other areas around here.  What are your requirements??

I am glad that Natasha is doing more research than I first credited her with. Furthermore, I'm glad she is not selling up in the UK lock, stock and barrel.

My advice and it has been the same for over 20 years - leave room for a dignified retreat, if it is necessary. It appears Natacha is doing this.

By the way - Best of Luck.
