Just wondered if anyone else (other than us) is planning moving to Spain during the brexit implementation period? (Hopefully with a deal!) Would be nice to hear any views if you are.

I note from our (Irish) Sunday newspapers that the only EU countries concerned about Brexit are Britain and Ireland. The rest couldn't give a whit. If you think back to the days before the Brexit referendum you will see that the Boris Johnsons of the world kept informing the British public that there would be high scale exits from EU by its members. He was wrong and Britain (and Ireland to a certain extent) are out on a limb.

Two major Japanese car manufacturers are exiting the UK mainly because of Brexit. Sunderland (which doesn't need any more unemployment) is one such place and they voted for Brexit. I wonder if there has been an introduction of Sunderland Jokes in lieu of Irish Jokes.

If you look up my previous posts on this and other fora you'll see that I predicted a two year delay inBrexit (from 29th March 2019). Also, I  said that during this time there would be a general election and Brexit would be an issue leading to another referendum on the subject. This doesn't mean that people of the UK won't still vote for Brexit, but most probably will.

Even still the Irish Passport Office is inundated with requests for passports from people living and born in the UK. If one of your grandparents or one parent is/was Irish or even possessed an Irish passport, you are entitled to an Irish Passport. Now, some of my neighbours in Mojacar have Irish grandparents and have applied for an Irish Passport, but for some reason or other won't own up to the ploy. A typical case of Brits not helping Brits, not unusual in Spain.

Teresa May has abandoned Brits living abroad. OK you'll get the smug old farts toasting the Tories from bar stools on the Playa (they're the guys who bought off plan many years ago and didn't pay a penny in income tax in the UK since). It's time Brits stopped listening to former public schoolboys from Eton and spoke up for themselves.

If Brexit happens (and I reckon it won't) places north of the Watford Gap will become unemployment blackspots the likes that have never been seen. Look at Sunderland and multiply it by any amount. That's the reality of Brexit.

Just a thought . . . (just let's say I'm right and Brexit gets kicked down the road for two years during which there will be another referendum) . . . now might be a good time to buy property in Costa Almeria. Most property is 25% cheaper than in 2005 (T&C's apply).

Even if the UK leaves the EU, it is unlikely that property prices will drop significantly any more. I reckon you're guaranteed your money back at least if things go pear shape. Holiday rental prices are greater than pre-recession by a long way.

For investors, this is a good time to buy. That is if you can afford it and are hell bent on making your investment into a success.

I welcome any comments.

If there's one thing I check every 3/4 days, it's the movement of well positioned property in Mojacar Playa. It's a good barometer of how things are progressing/digressing on the Costas. People are not selling in the numbers they had say two years ago. They are holding onto what they have and keeping their cards close to the chest. Very few are selling. If Brexit goes through there probably even be less people selling or buying. However, if Brexit is put on hold there will be many cashing in and selling. There will be more buyers too.

Have a look at the websites of the better real estate agents. Even they are still displaying properties that were sold in the first half of 2018. This is merely to fill a page rather than have blank vacancies advertised.

Most of my friends in Mojacar are proud UK nationals. They have their house parties to celebrate the Queen's birthday, go to service on Remembrance Day, drink cava before all of England's games in the Six Nations, remember 1966 like it was last week and after several hours of Brexit television yesterday believe that England, at least, is being run by the greatest shower of screwballed fools since the Keystone Cops. Even SNP looks good, Welsh nationalists look OK too. But, the guys running the country that gave us the Post Office, BMW, the GBP£ etc appear to be out of it. Even Teresa May looks (understandably) tired at the minute. The Tories were held together by another group (DUP), a mixture of Northern Irish near bigots who would complain just eating green ice cream and wouldn't fly Aer Lingus.

The whole world and his mother are now bored to death regarding Brexit. Tory spokespeople with phrases highlighting the word "democracy" are being bandied about like cheap confetti at a tatty 1960's wedding in rural Ireland. There's the possibility of a general election being called within 10 days; Teresa is hanging on by the grease of her fingernails; even Boris Johnson looks intelligent.

I think it is time to clear the decks and start again. (a) Defer Brexit (b) Call a General Election asap (c) Have another Referendum on EU membership around mid autumn. Every UK citizen will then know more, even the smug panama hatted gentry on the Playa may be calling for a vote to Remain.
