Long term rent

Hi this topic has probably been covered if so I've missed it. We are a retired couple who wish to rent long term next year (12 months minimum). We are not going to sell our home in the UK as I have noted previously that it's not a good idea to do so in case it didn't work out. My question is I am aware that as non EU after 31st December we can probably stay 90 days out of 180, but after the 90 days could we apply for residencia using our rented property address. Any information on this subject would be gratefully appreciated. Stay safe everyone
