If you are still in UK it’s very easy and costs £8.50 - go to spanish Consulate website; download 2 copies of NIE application forms; book on line appointment and it took about 2 mins meeting the person who gives you a receipt and they email the NIE about two weeks later. It’s quite close to Sloane Square tube behind Peter Jones.

You can get your NIE when you actually purchase a property  your solicitor should help you with that. If you give him power of attorney then they will do it for you. 

Go to Soria Bonilla in Mojacar, so helpfull and efficient, known of them for 20 yrs, they are a registered Gestoria, cannot fault them.
