As far as I know, income coming into your bank totaling the required amount is sufficient, however derived - be advised though that after 183 days you become tax resident here and will be required to declare that income on your tax return - Spain requires declaration of worldwide income.

Thanks for your reply. Much appreciated. Will take a look at the Spanish Tax rates.
cheers.

And to add further to that .... to satisfy the conditions of continual residency, for the first 5 years you MUST spend at least .... [drumroll] ...183 days a year in Spain (or you lose your Residencia). So to maintain Residencia you have no option but to become tax resident as well!
I would suggest getting yourself someone here who knows the Spanish tax system thoroughly ... will save you a lot of money.

Hi Tracey, when we applied for residency a year ago they would not take rental income into account as they said it was not guaranteed permanently. All they were interested in was proof of pension. However, the requirements appear to change from time to time so this may no longer be the case.

We are hoping to be there in the next year or 2 as EU Citizens. This is a topic that has been discussed lately - what IS the financial criteria. I have read for EU Citizens this is around 800 euro per couple.

Hi Juliet, Do you know where I can find what the requirements are for residencia please? Seems to be different in each area and who processes your application.
Regards
Tracey

Annual average bank balance of 9.050€ - that’s in Almería, anyway
