renewing Spanish driving licence
Can anyone tell me if renewing a Spanish licence requires a new test or can I just renew it at the appropriate time.
you have to go to have a health check and eyesight test and take a test on a machine try the place in Garrucha on the seafront just along from the townhall towards Mojacar. They also do your photo and send it off for you.

Coordination test on the machine. A steering wheel which you hold then on the computer a driving lane which twists and turns and you have to keep your 'vehicle' within the lines! Takes a bit of concentration but if you are an experienced driver shouldn't be too difficult for you. Good luck. I'm still waiting for my new one, which was lost in post in august! The temporary authorisation paper ran out in October, so i have had to pay for duplicates to be sent for, and my next temporary authorisation will run out in January! It's cost me alot more than the original 50 euros. Hope you gave better luck than me. I agree go to Garrucha on the sea front the one in Vera Vision wouldn't renew my temporary paper, had to go via my lawyer.

Thank you.
Hi if you didn’t register with the DTG before 31st Dec last year to exchange your British license, you will have to sit a theory exam which you can ask for in English in advance at the DTG. After that you can book your practical exam, this is usually in Spanish. I am in the same boat so I went to a good driving school who arranged everything for me at a price of course) plus a few driving lessons to learn the vocabulary used by the examiner. I wish I had known all this last year it would have been so much easier. It does seem a bit crazy that from 31 st December this year it will be illegal to drive on an British license unless you have past the whole exam as a new driver in Spain or you exchanged it last year.
good luck, I have been driving for 35 years but it isn’t taken into account.
Lastly, if you are not a resident and only driving here temporarily you only need your British license and the international license from the uk which you get from the post office.
Hi Lottie,
I know what you mean...
Your licence is legal for 90 days as a visitor (if you go to France during that time I think the previous days in SPain would be counted too?) but over 90 days it is illegal and the equivalence is wiped out. Good to know the government are capable of throwing the toys out of the pram :)
Could you recommend your driving school to us?
