Hi.

Me and my wife own a property in Spain(and use it 3/4times a year)and know all about the existing 90/180.day rules.(not happy about it.!) But rules are rules.

My question is1.Will I still be able to drive my Spanish registered car(with Spanish insurance)still as a tourist.?

2. Also as I've not been able to get there due to restrictions since September 2019.The day I left I put a full ITV on it, that ran out in September 2020. It is still fully insured and taxed up to date. My question is.

Will I still be allowed to drive it to the ITV station in VERA from Mojacar? And if not are there any recommendations how to get it there.

Thanks.

you should still be allowed to drive your car but for the ITV you may have to use a GRUA to transport it to the ITV station.  Ask your insurance company for advice.

I am exactly the same, I was lucky ,we left in July and ITV ran out Jan but because it’s parked at Alicante airport they did it up there for me. We use Vera too normally or Albox.   I’m assuming we will still be able to drive our cars as we’ve been with them 10 years but Have you asked ?  and who are you insured with ,I’m Linea Directa. I’m going to ask 🥺🥺🥺 .

Thanks for your reply L181SKY I'm with AXA in Mojacar I will email Monday and see what they say.

Here in England there was an exemption in place for mot's due to covid I was just wondering if there was something in place like this in Spain. Thanks again.

yes there was an extension but not sure how long.  Don’t worry, life’s too short. It will be fine.

Well.  You can only come to Spain if you are a Resedcia card holder.  Now that is not going to work in your case. You only have 90days in 180day slot. So you are going to use your quoter up very quickly. You must show a RETURN TICKET when you arrive.
Now the problem is....

You can only be out of Spain for 89days You must return to Spain on the 90th day

OR you will loose your rights as a Resendency card holder. Driving to Spain is not a problem as long as you have correct paperwork. But the Police are getting tougher now and stopping Cars.

Thank you lowie1960 for your reply. When travel restrictions are lifted I only ever have stayed within the rules of 90 days and have been using my holiday home since 2015 the 90day/180days has always been in place.

Like I said I only stay for 3-4wks at a time maximum. (3 times a year) So it won't affect me as a tourist and I have no intention of being a resident at this time and know all about it as I've been reading this forum since 2015.

I won't be DRIVING to Spain as my Spanish car is already there.

My question was how do I get my Spanish car to the ITVstation without breaking the law as its expired now.

Also could you clarify that I will have to show a return ticket on my arrival to Spain as I've never had to do this before.  As I may wanna stay longer/shorter.than 3/4wks but still in my 90day rule.

Thanks.

I would call your insurer and ask if they can help with a grua to get you there.  They, being local will probably know a grua who would do it for you . There is one next door to Costa Coches near the Hotel Continental here’s the pic.   They helped us when we needed a new battery
