Driving
Hi Guys.
Looking to get a Spanish driving license. I am a resident and live in Mojacar can anyone recommend where to start.
Thanks
Stuart.
If you are aiming to take the theory and practical tests there is a driving school in the Parque Comercial in Mojacar...

For all you avid fans of licence exchange, this is the most recent update I can find, dated 19 December 2022
“This is a brief update on progress towards driving licence exchange coming into force and some more information on what to expect once that happens.
"The UK’s legal checks have now been completed and a final version is with Spain for agreement on their side. When the British Foreign Secretary James Cleverly and Spanish Foreign Minister Albares met this week, they both agreed that we are close to completing this process. We will update again before the Christmas break and work with Spain will continue between Christmas and New Year.
"In the meantime, here are provisional answers to some more of the questions you have been asking us:
My UK licence has expired. Will I be able to exchange it without taking a test?
Yes. The text includes provision for expired licences to be accepted for exchange, provided they were valid at the time you began living in Spain.
Do I have to give up my UK licence? Why can’t I keep both?
Once an exchange agreement is in force, you can drive in Spain on your UK licence for the first six months of living here, during which time you must exchange it for a Spanish licence. It is not possible to hold licences issued by the UK and Spain at the same time. If you return to live in the UK at any point, you will be able to exchange your Spanish licence for a UK one without taking a test.
I'm in my 80s/90s. Is there any age restriction on who can exchange their licence?
There is no age restriction and your driving licence remains valid until it expires. However, in general, once you reach 65, your licence will only be issued for five years, rather than 10. Validity periods are different for driving different categories of vehicles.

APPARENTLY there's been another update today, but I'm damned if I can find it!! Will edit this post if / when I find the info
EDIT: Just found it now on Brits in Spain Facebook Site:
We wanted to let you know what has happened on the driving licence negotiations since the ambassador’s video before Christmas. Work continued over the holidays and we are pleased to tell you that the legal checks have now been completed on both sides and the final processes required for an international treaty are now underway. The Agreement will go forward to the Consejo de Ministros for approval – these meetings take place each week and, while we have no control over the scheduling, we hope it will be tabled very soon. There will then be a formal exchange of notes and the Agreement will apply once it is published in the BOE (state bulletin). We will keep you informed as things progress.
Ahead of that, we recommend you get your psicotécnico test in place, as you will need a certificate showing you have passed the test in order to exchange your licence. Certificates are valid for three months and if you fail it you can retake as many times as you need. If you haven’t done it before, the psicotécnico is a short test to check your eyesight and reactions. You may also have a brief interview with a doctor. These are the official locations listed by the DGT (https://www.dgt.es/.../centros-reconocimiento-conductores/).
So ... not much different to last update in DecemberDarioMartin wrote on Mon Jan 16, 2023 5:30pm:

If you are resident and still have a UK licence, you can drive as from today. You have 6 months in which to organize an exchange.
The link below is the one you use to reserve an appointment with Tráfico to exchange your licence.

Here follows information published by N332 that may be of assistance:
COMPLETING DGT DRIVING LICENCE APPLICATION FORM
Here is a guide to help Spanish residents with a UK licence to complete the form:
https://sede.dgt.gob.es/sede-estaticos/Galerias/modelos-solicitud/03/Mod.03-ES.pdf
Section 1 - APPLICANT DETAILS
Here you need to fill out your NIE, Date of Birth, County of Birth, Nationality along with your email address and contact telephone number.
Section 2 - OWNER’S ADDRESS FOR NOTIFICATIONS
In this section you’ll fill out your address. Please note that street type could be Calle, Avenida, Partida etc. and you don’t need to complete fields that don’t apply to your address.
Section 3 - TYPE OF APPLICATION
Here you’ll choose “Canje” for Driving Licence change and “Otro Paises” for other countries. Below you’ll need to fill out the Class of Licence, your current Driving Licence Number, Country of Issue, Start Date of your existing licence and the expiry date.
At the bottom of this section there are 3 tick boxes that SHOULD BE LEFT BLANK, which gives DGT permission to check your ID documents electronically, which are padron, ID and residency status.
Next you need to fill out the town where you are signing along with the date and sign the document below.
Finally, in signing you are agreeing to the statement below your signature that says:
The applicant declares that they have not been legally disallowed of the right to drive motor vehicles and mopeds; are not subject to suspension or administrative intervention of their driving licence; are not the holder of a licence of the same class issued in another EU Member State that is part of the Agreement on the European Economic Area, nor have had their driving licence restricted, suspended or cancelled in another Member State.
