Currently Spain has just over a thousand dead due to virus whilst UK has 177 as at 7pm. Given that there are 20 million more people in UK whilst covering less than a third of Spain’s land area I would say that there will be less deaths in UK than Spain come the end. Not that we should be talking like this. All deaths are regrettable and are someone’s relative who will miss them. They are people not statistics, let us all remember that and good luck and keep safe to one and all

That .... doesn’t actually correlate to the UK governments own figures who predicted an infection rate of up to 80% of the population 🤔

More people living more tightly packed and continuing to interact will speed the spread of the virus, not slow it down so I’m afraid your estimate of less infections than Spain at the end is likely to be .... woefully miscalculated.

I’ve deliberately avoided talking about fatalities, because as you say these are people not numbers..... that being said, you compare the two numbers, 177 to 1000.  Give it two weeks and let’s then see what those numbers are.  I think you’ll find that sadly that 177 has risen somewhat.

The thing about this pandemic is that we know the virus has no favourite regarding race, religion, age, sex (although there are figures suggesting higher death rate amongst men). We also know that the virus spreads easily through people ignoring the 2 metre distance rule (one that's ignored by many even in Ireland) and the rule will dictate the amount of further deaths in Spain, UK, Ireland etc.

Projected Numbers of Death due to the Virus:- We know they will be high. Will we be informed of the actual numbers? - Probably not. We got a hint of the gravity of things to come by the actions of one London hospital yesterday. Comparing the death rate of Spain and the UK at this stage is folly. But, one thing is certain both countries started their preventive measures about a week later than others. The warnings were there (China, Italy etc) but were ignored. It wasn't until good social media put pressure on governments to do what they were elected to do that things changed for the better.

Monsieur Johnson is acting more sensibly now. I feel he needs to shut the school system in the UK 100% (I reckon his advisors are still filling his mind with much rubbish).  If anybody looking in thinks I am not in touch with reality have a look around your neighbourhood with some storing igloos of loo paper in their homes, many think by wearing paper masks or dust guards they are exempt from infection and the braindead of Spain and the UK heading for the coast in their caravans and dormobiles ensuring more will be infected. I think there will be some nasty scenes of people taking the law into their own hands.

In the meantime, stay safe, don't condone gatherings on terraces (known in Ireland as Covid-19 parties). Stop high-fiveing. Heed directives.

The BBC has a decent summary this morning.  Even before the ban on pubs etc it’s clear self isolation was pretty even:

Hope you all remain well.  There’s a decent video contrasting late night isolation music in Italy, Spain and the UK but I’m not sure how to link it
