We are about to embark on a trip to Southern Spain and would like to know if most camp sites and motorhome stopovers are open as some sites aren't taking bookings at the moment. We would be grateful for any information  on this topic, thank you.

we have seen lots of campers in Vera, Huercal overa, Lorca amd Murcia and today in La Zenia shopping carpark.  We think they use these areas because there are toilets available.

By the looks of things you can park wherever you like. The place is overrun with motor homes.

Many campsites are full, as usual for this time of year. Mostly over-winterers from more northern countries. It is easier to find places inland than by the coast (and much nicer in my humble opinion....). If you fancy a specific place, keep calling, or show up as early as you can ,like noon. Use all the apps you have, they are a cheap investment, many are free.

I met up with friends recently who have driven down from Santander and they are having to rethink their plans as many authorised sites are booked up. All of Mojácar sea fronts have no camping signs for anything over 5m so I guess those who previously “free camped” are now moving on to sites or as Alicia said using car parks. Apparently Garrucha council allows overnight stays in the marina carpark and it’s usually well stocked with motor homes.

This is why I am asking as we do not agree to people parking wherever they like, especially in such a beautiful area, it must really annoy the residents too.

camper vans all along Mojacar beaches today and in Garrucha port car park.  where do they put their dirty water?  plus Lidl carpark now they have taken the barrier away for the winter had half a dozen in there filling it up.  obviously Covid has encouraged the use of these holiday homes because you can choose who you mix with.

Thanks Alicia for the info but unless El Cantal is open we'll maybe have to give Mojacar a miss this year. It's a shame as Mojacar feels like home, especially since we spent lockdown there in the winter 2019 and Spring 2020.

Thanks for the info, I thought they might be as we spent all winter there 2 winters ago and the owner was very good to us, but I can't make direct contact. So thanks again I think many of the long-stays will be going home soon and make some spaces for those of us who waited.
