€149

Top quality XCALIBER 800 metal detector made by MINE LAB that normally sell for well over $1000.  Can detect objects under water up to about 40 feet as well.

Just a heads up, there is a total ban on the use of metal detectors in Andalusia, if caught there is an on the spot three thousand euro fine and your equipment is confiscated.

Hi Festus, I am glad you said this as I was totally unaware of this rule/law. I was actually thinking of taking up metal detecting as I have always been interested in history plus there is the added bonus that one may find something valuable. Is there anywhere that I can look to confirm this?

Regards

Karl

Well there is a difference between an interest in history and disturbing/looting a site of historical importance and the reason for one of the decrees making it a serious offence, the ruling also applies to beaches, Andalusia has some of the toughest laws in Spain.

Imagine the reaction if someone from Spain, started digging up stonehenge.

Finding something valuable even current coinage etc. is covered under the second decree.

There is information on the Internet but I suggest you get it from the horses mouth, go to the Guardia Civil and ask them about using a metal detector, it's possible the tourist information centre would have some information as well but the Guardia Civil is your best place to get information :)

I don't think Karl suggested digging up the ampitheatre in Cartagena or anything like that. I think he was meaning he might find something historic somewhere historically meaningless.

Good to see Spains laws being so robustly upheld now. not long since Town hall's gave out building permits that are not worth the paper with impunity but woe betide anyone digging up a 50 cent coin on the beach!

Only in Topsy turvey Spain......
