Hi all, we are thinking of getting a holiday home in this lovely region but have noticed the significant rise in car rental prices over the last year. Can any one advise the best ways to get to and from any of the local airports to Mojacar and current approximate costs please?

Many Thanks

Matthew

Rise in costs of renting a car from any of the airport suppliers has risen pretty steeply over the past 7/8 years driving (pun intended) many people out of renting cars. The costs for add-ons have increased also. Outside of the rising costs the legalised "scams" amongst car renters has risen also. Last time I rented a car I was "caught" for missing spare wheel, missing radio antenna and of course the need to wash the car because of the amount of mud accumulated. I was covered by my own excess insurance and the car renters gladly gave me paperwork for my claim on my return to Ireland. None of the stuff was in the car when I collected it and at the time it was not unusual not to challenge the rental companies. There is no point in arguing with such "schemers" as they have all day while you are rushing for a flight.

There is a new "scam" being used by the rental companies now i.e. scrapes underneath the car (how do you check these on collection?). Later you can get a bill for broken lights and a few other untruths.

www.exclusiveairportshuttles.co.uk offer a terrific service from Almeria, Murcia and Alicante airports. While car rental was a good addition to any holiday, the car rental companies have screwed themselves and deserve every bit of it for the dreadful way they have treated bona fide renters of cars.

The public bus service through Mojacar Playa is pretty good and inexpensive too. For €1.20 you can visit places like Mojacar Pueblo, Vera, Vera Playa, Garrucha and a limited service to Carboneras.

Hi, I stopped hiring a car about 5 years ago when I discovered " Exclusive Airport Shuttles ".

It is an excellent pre-booked bespoke service, Almeria, Murcia, & Alicante airports to Alfaix,

Los Gallardos, Mojacar, Vera, Turre, & Garrucha, to many specific drop-off & pick-up points.

From January 2022, the cost is 19.95 Euros per person per journey, great value when you

consider the cost of car rental for a week or two. I am looking forward to my next trip to

Mojacar in May 2022.  The Airport coaches are from Autocares Rodrigues, the same company

that operate the yellow buses between Mojacar Playa & Mojacar Pueblo, also great value at

1.20 Euro for 1 stop or the complete journey.  Cheers, Ray Smyth, Mojacar visitor since 1989.
