Hi

If i decided to live in Vera itself, does the coastal bus run throughout the year??

Is there a good supermarket in Vera

Is there a doctors

And the Valle este golf complex, is it within walking distance of shops, bars etc

Are taxis plentiful

I don't drive, and have breathing and walking problems, so I've decided against mojacar!!

Many thanks in advance

Jess

Hi Jess, on the Valle del Este question, no it's not within walking distance of shops as it's off the A7 halfway between Los Gallardos and Vera, and even the small road directly from the complex down towards Garrucha takes over 10 minutes in a car. I should think walking from the hotel or the centro comercial to the front gate would take a good 20 minutes. But there is a supermarket on the complex as well as other shops and a really good restaurant, the Triana.

Supermarkets in Vera: there's a Lidl and also Iceland which is where you can get Slimming World meals. I'm not saying you need them but that's where we get them and it's the only place as far as I know. It also has lots of other British products - I think you are from the UK - but Lidl is much cheaper. Iceland is right next door to a really good Chinese emporium that sells everything you could ever want except food.

As you don't drive, living in Vera (and certainly if you lived on Valle del Este) you would need to use taxis or buses. Others will no doubt answer the taxi and bus questions as I can't  as we always use a car. However I think the buses along the coast and from Vera to Vera Playa do run all year, at least from Monday to Friday, see http://autocaresbaraza.com.  One thing I have picked up though is that if you plan to live on an urbanization there is often one of the residents who acts as an unofficial - and English-speaking - taxi driver and can take you to the shops or airport. The President of your community association or others living near you would know. It might be quite useful if you have any concerns over local taxis.

Well that's tricky without knowing a lot more, but from what you have said I really don't think a property on Valle del Este will be suitable if you don't drive as you might feel trapped on the complex particularly in the winter months when so many of the properties are locked up. If I were you I would be looking at something along the coast from Vera Playa to Garrucha to Mojacar Playa. Particularly Mojacar Playa. It will give you easy access to shops, restaurants, buses and a community throughout the year. In Vera town itself you won't get that to the same extent. In Valle del Este you'll feel too cut off. Something on the playa in Garrucha not too far from the Lidl there (our local supermarket) might be ideal depending on what's available and your budget.

Happy to answer any other questions if I can bearing in mind we have a house in Los Gallardos so don't actually live right on the coast.

Hi Jess

I live on Vera Playa. The local bus runs from Vera to Mojacar all year round one every hour. I think the last one leaves Vera town about 8pm so not good if you want an evening out. In the summer usually mid June to early Sept it runs much later.

On Vera Playa there is a large Consum Supermarket and a couple of small ones on Bougainville. In Vera town there is Lidl, Mercadona and Iceland and an excellent market every Saturday. There is a large clinic in Vera with plenty of Doctors and I believe the emergency clinic is open 24 hours (could be corrected on this). I would not recommend Valle del Este if you don't have a car you are really isolated and there is no bus. If you go out for the evening most bars/restaurants will order you a taxi but they are not plentiful so you may have to wait and don't even bother trying to get one in August!

Hope this info helps.

Hi Jess,

Buy or rent on Verá Playa.  It's flat, there is a large Consum supermarket with farmacy next door and buses to nearby Garrucha and Vera every hour.

I agree Vera or Vera Playa would probably suit you best.Vers has lots of cafes, supermarkets ,shops etc.

If you buy in Vera ,don't buy near the bull ring as everything you need is up further nearer the main Street in Vera.

Vera Playa is indeed flat and there are plenty of complexes to choose from .You can get a bus right from Consum at the centre to Garrucha ,Mojacar etc.

From Vera town bus station you can go to Murcia and on to Alicante and other places.

If you shop in Mercadona anywhere they will deliver locally .

While Garrucha is also lovely ,I think a lot of apartments are up a bit of a hill. Also they don't always have a lift !!!!

Hope this helps .

Please look at the small fishing town of Garucha, it would be ideal for you.  we have an apartment in Garrucha, just as you enter the town, opposite the police station.  It is not in a complex.  It takes us 5 mins to walk to Lidl, though this is up hill.  The bus to Mojacar, Borganvilla and Vera is practically outside our door the urgencia is 3 mins walk away, opposite the school.  We live on Calle Major and its a straight flat walk to the shops, there is a bread shop 1 min away, shops with household items the same and on the walk along Calle Major is a butchers a fish mongers and some small supermarkets.  love it there.  We will be out mid Sept for about 6 weeks I could meet you and show you around.  Ruth
