Just out of interest....

So, I live in the uk and have a place in Mojacar where we holiday quite often. I use Next as my ISP with the vacation package although not perfect, I have no issues with Internet TV.

I installed a VPN in my house in the UK about 2 years back (cost about £30) and with absolutely zero cost/year I am able to watch any UK TV program I want as if I was in my house in the UK. I use the Amazon fire stick straight into the HDMI port and it's perfect.

If I run an IP Locator app on a device connected to my VPN, it says I am in my home town in the UK.

It's good for other stuff as well, like doing the UK Lotto and making out I am on my UK Internet address when paying bills as some companies don't like it when you change IP address.

The way I view this as far as watching TV re the TV licence, is that I pay my UK licence fee and I am sort of watching TV from my home address in the UK!!!

So, my advice is, if you either live in the UK and holiday abroad or work away on business or have family and/or friends in the UK, then get a VPN hosted in the UK, buy an Amazon fire stick (which beats the pants off these Andiod based things), install Kodi as well and you have free UK TV for ever where ever you are in the world.

That sound good advice...going to cut 'n paste your reply ...and follow it..!  Thanks...!

Hi, I am currently in Mojacar this week and as always loving it.

I have been watching uninterrupted English TV for the last few days and it's been perfect, so far no buffering.

One thing I did a few weeks ago at home in the UK was to install openvpn directly onto my Amazon fire stick and it looked great. However, on arriving here in Mojacar, I attempted to fire up the VPN on the fire stick and altough it connected and authenticated to my VPN server in the UK, it didn't route any traffic via the UK!!! Competely flunked me and after a whlie I found that it was using the default route and attempting to connect via spain in this case, acording to goole its a known issue. So the likes of BBC and ITV failed to connect. I still have a 'Raspberry PI' down here that I was able to route with, So back to how it has been working for the last year or so. I will work this out when I go home next week.

As for PBS, I don't know anything about it, but I will look into it for you and let you know.  Am I right in thinking it's a U.S. facility?

PBS is the American equivalent of the BBC - but the BBC about 50 years before it became so PC its now likely to disappear up its own...well, never mind...

PBS (Public Broadcasting Service) is American and it does some really good documentaries. Used to get it through my sat dish until they weakened the signal. I now watch it through the internet, on Youtube..

Yes, it is good for all the channels that I need. The fire stick (and its big brother the fire tv) is a dedicated streaming device. Of course, Amazon are big into their videos, so they have made sure that the fire stick is geared up for streaming Amazon content.

If you have a U.S. based VPN (as well as a UK VPN), then you will have a massive streaming potential.

For the UK Market, there are all the British TV channels ie BBC & ITV and the U.S. will have all of their channels, so hitting the U.S. via a VPN would be good.

There are many other dedicated streaming devices out there and they are all good. One needs to avoid these cheaper unbranded devices that are described as 'Android'.

The fire stick is Android based under the covers but as I said it's dedicated and the hardware is designed for streaming, where as the unbranded are full of generic hardware, so yeah, they work but they are no where near as good. Prior to using the Firestick I was using the Raspberry PI ( which I was running Linux on) and it was ok, but it was nothing in comparason to the Firestick.

This topic is not right you dont need a VPN to get english tv in spain and a Firestick is one of the worse ways to get it.Android boxes are more user friendly than a Firestick.
