Hi,

We have just moved to Mojacar permanently, after living here part time for 15 months....our TV in this time has not been great, a very old fashioned look to the graphics, and none of the Sky perks such as catch up etc.,

We cannot have a big dish as we are in an apartment, but have Wimax wifi which seems fine when using broadband, but the tv buffers a lot.

Now we are here full time can anyone recommend a supplier (have looked in the focus, and not sure where to go) for good TV  which works like Sky and doesn't buffer all the time. I have read all the posts on TV access and am not computer literate enough to follow the VPN route etc., just want to go somewhere to have them deal with it for me without being ripped off (Not happy with what we have at present and think it's expensive.)

Any help would be gratefully received.

Thanks

Andi

Hi Andi. I have Sky and put up a big dish 4 years ago. Now I have IPTV and very happy with it. No recording like Sky+ but much cheaper and more channels.

Contact Sam Evans. Very efficient, free trial if required. Find him on Facebook - Sam Evans or SE.

Hi Andy, I have Wimax 20 mbps connection.

Buffering  has very little to do with the average internet connection. My friend has only 4 mbps and he suffers no more buffering than I do.

I have another friend who pays 150€  per year for IPTV and he suffers more buffering than I do.

What happens is everyone logs on to iptv mainly of an evening for 'soaps' 'football' etc and the iptv servers have limited capacity, hence you at the other end get buffered.

You will probably find, as I do regularly,  if you check your download speed when you experience buffering you will often conclude your internet is okay. Its easy to blame your internet supplier.

You also need to turn off your iptv set, restart the modem, wait a minute or two, then start up your iptv set.

Its called ' handshaking' necessary for your iptv box to re- recognize your modem if your connection temporary slowed or was switched off by your supplier  even for a split second during their routine maintenance which they carry out several times a day 24/7. Your IPTV box is not equipped to do automatic re-handshaking recognition of a lost connection that can occur almost unnoticed even in a split second interval.

Try my tips but remember Sky and the BBC each invested tens of millions in a new satellite to stop people like you and I from watching their programs in Spain. Fortunately, they did not do a very good job otherwise you would never get Sky, BBC or ITV.

Hope you find this useful, regards Al

We are on the Playa and get Fibre @ 300mbps, is it in your area yet? Go to the a Movistar website and see if it is.

I have been paying £12.50 a month for 5 subscriptions, so I have it on my two TVs + Mag Box + Firestick + two Ipads etc.  Been with them two years nearly, never a problem.

But you need good internet.  I had Wimax, it was useless where I am, they gave up in the end and refunded me!

BTW my Internet with Spanish TV, phone, 2 mobiles cost me €46 a month!

Hi Frank,

Sorry, I WAS with Movistar, they charged us €77 fir the same package; so I changed to Vodafone, €46 on a 12 month contract, a stable 300 mbps plus extras. Been with them for two months now, not a problem. Movistar was dropping to 50mbps on a regular basis and they wouldn’t do anything about it, so I kicked them into touch (with no penalty).

Thanks for the info Kingo. My history with Vodafone is not great but that was another country!

Thanks again

Me neither (in the UK). But I know the girl in the shop, and I trust her, so fingers crossed.

Movistar started out great, first three months paid €57 speed great, then the next three months speed dropped to 50-70, payments went up each month €72, €75, €77.50....... with no explanation, so I switched to Vodafone, they even said if I had a penalty to pay they would pay it, but I didn’t ........ now I’m on 300mbps, Spanish TV, Landline with free calls in Spain, mobile with unlimited calls and texts, a second Sim with free calls fir ‘er indoors PLUS 20 gb 4g internet, not bad.

If you don’t want fixed installations, you can also consider a 4G connection which has no dish, lines, or cabling - just a straight router which will sit anywhere.  4G is ample for an IPTV connection.

Steve Bancroft at http://www.4ginternet.es offers a UKTV package (carried by Vodaphone) along with the 4G connection.  Orange also do 4G but not sure about UKTV

Saludos, Darío
