Hello weve always thought we would open a bank account at Banco Sabadell on arrival in Mojacar but today i heard someone complaining that they charge you  separately for every bank activity you have.  Can anyone tell me if this is correct and any advice on a bank to use in the area.

Thankyou

JanIan

If you have a Key account (the normal one for non-residents) they don't charge for every transaction. They do charge an annual fee for the cards and we also pay about €30 a quarter for the privilege of having the account. Also, of course if you use the card outside Spain  there will be a charge for each transaction. For the last 2 and half years we've been very happy with them and with the branch in Vera.

Hi,

We are with La Caixa in Mojacar.

We are Resident so 12€ per quarter to have account & no idea if same for non residents. 39€ pa for CC.

We actually keep very little in Spanish account having had one Embargo.

We now do as much as poss with Lloyds euro acct in Gibraltar and have one pension directed there.

When we used the la caixa card in another ATM it cost 17€ for 200€.

Thank you Rob for your very prompt reply that has set my mind at rest and not unreasonable charges at all.

Thanks again

Thanks for your very helpful information we too will be applying for residency so that is very reasonable  quarterly charges and i had heard someone else talking about La Caixa earlier today when i was googling for information so that's a coincidence.

Thanks again,

JanIan

Further to the above, Sabadell also offer an Expansión account; this account is completely fee free, no CC charge, no quarterly charge, no transaction charge.  To qualify you need to have either 120.00,00€ in the account or have 700,00 € a month coming in to the account (it does not need to be lump sum - just deposits totaling 700,00 € - and as a helpful branch member pointed out, if you withdraw 700,00 €, then deposit it .... that counts!!)

I’m also with the branch in Vera and they are a fabulous bunch.  I’ve had my Expansión account since 2014, never EVER paid any fees of any kind.

I'd forgotten that the Expansion is for residents and the Key account for non-residents.

Mmmm not sure about that - I opened my Expansion in 2014 from overseas, with passports, as a nonresident.  The only difference was when I got residencia, I was able to access more true savings plans
