Hi,

I am based in UK but am looking to purchase a property in Mojacar that needs renovating. I don’t know Spanish yet so would need English speaking Notary and Lawyer. Plus I need to open a bank account and would appreciate recommendations on this too. Many thanks

you can find a notary in the Uk and use them to arrange a Spanish solicitor to act for you here but remember to cancel the document when you finish all the transactions.  You have to do that here in Spain in front of the Spanish Notary and of course both will cost you money.

Angela Morales in Mojacar is a good solicitor and Chloe the receptionist is English.

I agree, Maria and Esther at Mundiabogados are excellent. They both speak English and when I purchased they opened a bank account with IberCaja for me and set up all the required DDs for water, electric and basura...

I am going off topic here slightly. I concerns me, that people that are new to Spain  put all their trust and hard earned money in lawyers and banks and direct debits.

Do they realise that the Spanish tax office has access to all bank accounts in Spain, and at a whimp without warning can freeze your account or even worse remove money that they say you own them. even if you dont ( this is from experience )

DD in spain aren't the safe way to pay that they are in the UK. you are better off controlling your own money. e.g.you can pay Iberdrola  (electricity) over the phone useing your bank card they speak english) as for Basura, IbI and water, you can go to the town hall collect the bill or they will even email it to you and you just go to the bank and pay it.

Yes its a little more hassle than a DD, but its safe, your in control. and not leaving it to some banking/tax systems that is corrupt.

Can't say I've had any issues at all with payments and banking after owning my hone for 7 years and living here for just over 5. I guess I might just be lucky...

Think it is sometimes just useful to remind ourselves that while the process having a bank account and paying bills is familiar.  The way Banks  conduct business and their terms and conditions can be very different in Spain

Hi I also live permanently in the U.K. but have a villa in Arboleas. I used Angela Morales in Mojaca. She speaks English and Is very professional and trustworthy. She handled the purchase of my property and was very diligent. She also attended all meetings with the notaria, opened bank accounts, and opened accounts with the electric, water, Companies and with the Town Hall for taxes and bills etc. I gave her power of attorney and everything went through very efficiently and smoothly. I cannot recommend her highly enough.
