So excited, we arrive in Mojacar Playa on Tuesday 10th May!  Can anyone please tell me which ATMs are best to use for withdrawing Euros without a ridiculous charge?  TIA x

I have a UK Santander account and withdraw money from any Santander ATM with no extra charges. Always choose without conversion, you get a better rate

It does depend on what type of card you are using.  We load a Caxton cash card with Euros in England to get a rate better than that for buying cash and to avoid carrying more than needed for the journey.  Withdrawals used to be free at any ATM in Spain but just before the pandemic, the Spanish banks introduced a nominal charge.  We tested withdrawals at Santander, Sabadell, Unicaja, and one other, expecting the charges to be similar.  They are not!  The charge at Unicaja was considerably lower than the others and Santander was the highest.  But last year we discovered the best way of paying for everything in Spain is to use a Credit Card, (find one that doesn't charge fees to set up or convert the currency).  Mine is Nationwide with which I have an account so it is easy to settle monthly. English Cards are accepted in shops and restaurants, in fact almost everywhere, and, on the card reader always electing to pay in Euros, you get a commercial rate of exchange which, if you are here for any length of time, does make quite a difference.  Just keep track of what you spend though, it does mount up quite quickly.
