Hi there

when moving to Mojacar, how do dogs deal with the heat / hot weather?

There are so many dogs around that they must deal with it without much problem. They pant a lot to lose heat but most seem fine. We're bringing our collie cross, Kevin, down next summer so this is of interest to us as well.

Hi there Rob

thank you so much for your input. I know a lot of people who have moved over and taken 1-2-3 dogs and they dont plan to come back and they never say anything about heat and their dogs. But mine is not one for heat, but he isnt one for cold either. And I am looking into moving over so my dog is very close to my heart and of course his happiness. He (Quito, my Dalmatian) is only 18 month so still classed as a puppy. He is short haired which may be an advantage. Having said that someone told me that longer hair keeps them cooler which is an interesting thought and I can see the point. :)

Planning a move and getting it all together before is a good thing. :)

our Jack Russel is the same with heat and cold but he tends to walk in the shade when we are out lays in the sun for a while and then moves into the shade we never take him out midday and all the doors are open so he comes and goes as he wants and we never leave him in the car when hot not even in shade.

Hi

We brought our lhasa apso over from the uk 4 years ago. We walk him very early July and August as the roads, tiles and tarmac are scorching and have the air con on for him.

We also brought he a cool mat from pets at home that works well.

His long hair keeps him cool so we dont groom him too short in the summer.

Regards Alex

Hi there Alex

thats good to know. Thanks for your reply. Sounds like that 4 years later you have managed well. :-) My sister is just in Estepona and she said there are so many dogs and they are all out and they go in the shade and sleep or play and just do the normal thing. :-)

Hi there. That sounds awesome. So dogs are off lead as well and not bound to being on the lead? Thanks for replying. :-)

This will be our first hot summer here as we are not normally here so late but we are stuck.   Our little maltichon is happy in the sun and shades herself no prob.  She has no undercoat so could burn. I’m going to have to watch the scorching pavements.  As you will to.  Good luck with everything.
