I think this thread has run its course and I hope it will not be deleted (despite the protests of uncaring animal “lovers”).

Who won the debate? - The real dog lovers didn’t. The uncaring brigade will continue to bring their animals to the beaches irrespective of health notices. Dogs will be allowed occupy seats in restaurant terraces. Waiting staff still continue to fondle dogs and serve food without sanitising hands. The same “dog lovers” will not place muzzles on dogs that by law should be muzzled Add in your own thoughts and I suspect you think like me.

The uncaring animal owners have won:-

1. They had an entire thread deleted recently and in the past succeeded in having previous similar threads deleted too.

2. They are the subjects of unhealthy and dangerous performances of their animals and have succeeded in playing good people as a type of villain. They will always do this.

3. The inevitable is that some day somebody will be savaged by the dog of these uncaring people and Guess What? It’s not the dog’s fault! - They’re right, the fault is theirs. But, they’ll never own up to their responsibilities ever and under any circumstances.

Matthew, what I dont understand is that if the people in Spain with their dogs offend you so much, (you have been bleating the same old same old for the last 4 years to my knowledege) then why do you go there, why not stay in your own country. I couldnt stand the animal cruelty in Spain and although I tried to do my bit to change it nothing changed, so after 12 years I left.  Perhaps you should consider sticking to Ireland

Don't believe that one caring person cannot change the beliefs of others..

. Indeed it is the only thing that ever can.....

I had thought that this subject had run its course but Jenni has posed a question and I will answer it truthfully:-

1. I have no problem with people or dogs in Spain. In fact, I don’t have problems with people and their dogs anywhere. We have two dogs in Ireland. If anybody cares to read through the whole thread you will see that my concerns are about the bad behaviour of some people and their dogs who abuse privileges.

2. Do you think it right that dogs are allowed to drop their faecies all over and not have them immediately cleaned up by their owners?  If your answer is no, then you agree with me.

3. Do you think that dogs in public places should be kept under full control by their owners? If the answer is yes, then you agree with me.

4. Do you think that those dogs which by law are required to wear muzzles should be muzzled? If your answer is yes, then you agree with me.

5. Do you think that dogs should be prevented access to restaurants/bars? Do you think dogs should be allowed occupy chairs at restaurant tables? Do you think dogs should be allowed to roam around the restaurant? Do you think dogs should be given food in restaurants? If your answer is no, then you agree with me.

6. Worse again Jenni suggests that I have been denounced by NannieH - Read her post(s) and you will see NannieH agrees with me.

7. Then the classic:- Jenni suggests that I should not go to Spain because of my stance on bad and unhealthy dog behaviour. That’s the catch cry of nearly all the offensive dog owners when challenged by good people. If you don’t agree with such behaviour, then you agree with me.

8. Go back farther on this thread and you will see that good people can do something positive about bad behaviour of dogs and their owners. Use your phone to record proof of such to back up your complaint, if you wish. But the good news is something will be done. Nothing will happen if you remain silent. There is a mayor in Mojacar who wants improvements in the resort. The police will up their act if demanded. You have the power. Don’t leave it to somebody else.

In the Facebook version of this forum there is a little discussion on Dogs on Mojacar Beaches. Again some of the contributors who pointed out that dogs are prohibited from beaches by Ayuntamiento by-laws suffer blanket coverage by those uncaring dog owners who flout every animal law possible.

There is a sign at the entrance to Playa de Las Venticas (just across the road from The Rusty Nail) which clearly indicates No Dogs Allowed Anytime. Somehow the so called dog “lovers” don’t see this.

More importantly, the sign points out that it is a Blue Flag beach. Furthermore, it suggests that if you think it shouldn’t be Blue Flag there is an email address to where you can send a complaint.

The mayor of Mojacar is pro active in improving the Pueblo and Playa. If there is one thing that’s not needed it is the removal of Blue Flag status. Let’s hope the uncaring animal owners take note.

Again, thanks to Jenni for keeping this thread open.

Given Mojácars recent award by Ferrero Rocher and the increased tourism - and status that brings - I’m certain the Mayor will be even more pro-active.  The Ayuntamiento are keeping the Christmas lights on until end of February I think it is, so really trying to bring more people in.

They are not going to be wanting their increased visitation to be stepping in dog poo, so yes, the Mayor will be pro-active about that.

I would say “don’t blame the dogs if they foul the beaches / path / etc” - because they are just being dogs. Blame the lazy and frankly uncaring humans that purport to care for them for being either too lazy or too arrogant to keep them under control and/or clean up after them - and when I say “blame” I mean take video / photos and denounce at every opportunity.

Once an absolute flood of complaints comes in it’s clear it’s not one or two malcontents but the larger population that will not tolerate this behaviour - and may consider taking their € elsewhere - at which point pressure will be brought to bear, the policía local will increase activity and said lazy or arrogant dog owners will be dealt with.

It takes everyone as a community to say “enough” - and to keep saying it over and over and over and eventually the message gets through … and change happens.  Don’t give up, keep denouncing animal abuse / cruelty and irresponsible owners - because if you throw your hands in the air and say “I can’t do anything” then they’ve won and you become part of the problem.

Be part of the solution instead.
